Meeting Mister Maker At Mister Maker & The Shapes Live - Whitley Bay Playhouse

Yesterday we were invited to see Mister Maker live at the Whitley Bay Playhouse in North Tyneside, not far from where we live. We really like the Playhouse as it spacious and modern and located near the seafront in Whitley Bay, we reviewed the Aladdin pantomime there last year. We had a brilliant time at the Mister Maker live show and much to my children's delight we got to meet Mister Maker himself, he is so nice and friendly in real life.

Mister Maker is a show that I am very familiar with as my eldest daughter was crazy about the show when it first came out, about ten years ago now (I feel old saying that!). She loved the show for years and would always try and make the 'minute makes' off the show herself. For the last few years, my younger two children Sophia (4) and Jacob (almost three) have loved the show too - especially the shapes!

For those of you unfamiliar with the show, it is a children's art and craft type TV show on CBeebies. Children love the show as Mister Maker is lots of fun and full of energy and little ones adore him, the shapes are also huge hits and I am sure everyone has heard the "I am a shape" song and phrase. Obviously, as it is an arty show I wondered how they would turn it into a theatre show, I need not have worried though as the show was so much fun for both adults and children alike.

Mister Maker and the shapes live at Whitley Bay

On entering the theatre children were each handed a piece of paper and told to hold onto it as they needed it for during the show to help make something (I won't say what as I don't want to give it away). The show then started with some catchy songs and dancing from Mister Makers friends before the main man himself took to the stage to a round of cheers from the audience.

Jacob my two-year-old is a huge Mister Maker fan and he was super excited to see him on stage, he was waving, shouting, dancing and joining in with everything which was brilliant to watch. Audience members - children and adults were invited onto the stage to take part in fun challenges. There was some minute make time activities going on and lots of dancing and getting the audience involved throughout the show.

After a short interval it was time for the much-loved Shapes to take to the stage, Sophia my four year old loved these and she was in her element dancing along with them. Every child and adult in the audience were dancing along and it was such a lovely atmosphere.

The show was on for an hour and forty minutes with a short interval, which I think is the perfect amount of time for a pre-schooler show. The show ended with some songs and dancing and we actually really enjoyed it, every child in the audience was clapping and smiling. If you have a Mister Maker fan at home then they would love this show, my children had the best time even though Sophia was a little bit of a tinker and would not leave Heidi from North East Family Fun alone.

At the end of the show we actually got to meet Mister Maker and he was really nice, he was so friendly and brilliant with the children. I thought Jacob was going to burst with excitement when he saw him and he could not believe his luck when Mister Maker give him a signed magazine. He did not even bat an eyelid when Jacob started sticking stickers on him and he was just as fun as he appears on the screen.

Mister Maker Live is touring the UK and to find out more about the show and see if it is visiting a venue near you check out www.mistermakerlive.co.uk
