Stay Hydrated This Winter With Robinsons
AD
In the summer I drink so much water to keep me feeling cool and refreshed on warm summer days, however in the winter I am guilty of rarely drinking any. Now that the weather is colder the idea of a cold glass of water does not appeal to me and I much prefer to drink a hot cup of tea or coffee instead. A a huge 62% of people questioned in a recent survey carried out by Robinsons who also prefer to drink hot drinks over water in the winter months.
We need to remember that drinking enough water is important in winter as tea and coffee is a diuretic and if we do not drink enough water we can easily become dehydrated. Robinsons have come up with lots of recipes for hot and cold drinks using their delicious fruit cordial drinks, to help inspire us to start drinking more water and stay hydrated this winter.

Hornby Santa's Express Train Set Review
AD
When I was a small child one of my uncles used to have a train set going around his Christmas tree, I use to think that it was the most magical thing ever. I always wanted a one of my own and when I had my own children I vowed to get a one, although I have never actually got around to getting a one yet. Last week that changed when Hornby kindly sent us their Santa's Express train set to review.
My brother used to have a Hornby train set when he was younger which he spent hours playing with, so I knew that they were a great brand who make quality train sets to last. When the set arrived everything we needed was included in the box, it contained a three-piece train, lots of track, a control and even a mat that you can use to place your train on if you prefer.

Disney Princess Royal Boutique Cash Register Review
AD
My two-year-old daughter is really into Disney Princesses and role-play at the moment, like most little girls her age she loves watching Disney films and playing with the shop and till at pre-school. So when she was recently sent the Disney Princess Royal Boutique Cash Register to review I knew that this would be something she would love.
I was pleased to see that it already had batteries included (it uses 3 AAA). The till reminds me of old-fashioned style cash registers which I think gave it that princess feel to it. It is a beautiful pink and gold colour decorated with popular princesses Belle, Aurora, Snow White and Ariel.

Fisher Price Charisma 3-in-1 Trike Review
AD
Recently my one year old was lucky to be sent a Fisher Price Charisma 3-in-1 trike to review. When the box arrived it was fairly small and lightweight (perfect for wrapping up for Christmas). It was super quick and simple to build with easy to follow instructions.
The quality of the Fisher Price trike is fantastic with a lightweight metal frame, secure plastic seat unit, rubber wheels and lots of fantastic storage space. This trike has lots of little extra features too such as padded harness straps and seat covers (which are washable), footrests for younger children who can not reach the peddles yet and soft easy grip handlebars and adjustable canopy. As well as a reclining seat, built in suspension and the option to easily swap from parent steering to child steering.

Lunch At Blackfriars Newcastle
It was my birthday a few weeks ago and to celebrate the other half treated me to lunch out. We decided to visit Blackfriars in Newcastle city centre for lunch. Tucked away between the gate complex and China town sits Blackfriars, an award-winning restaurant located in the 13th century former medieval friary that now serves lots of local produce.
The restaurant is decorated in keeping with the medieval background with bare stone walls, wooden carved chairs and lots of candles dotted around the room. You could tell that lots of attention to detail has gone into the feel of the place with unique carved stone salt and pepper pots on the tables and placemats showing where the local food they serve is produced.

The Pampers Baby Dry Challenge
AD
Regular readers will probably already know that I am a Pampers fan, I have used Pampers nappies on all three of my children. I have tried other brands now and then but I always come back to Pampers, as I personally find them the best around.
Pampers recently launched some Baby Dry pants which are a pull-up pant style nappy that offer up to 12 hours of dryness and are designed to make nappy changing easier for mobile babies who are still too young for potty training. I always thought that pull up pants were for potty training but these ones are just as absorbent as a regular nappy but they are designed to be like pants. They are easier to put onto a wriggling baby and you can just pull the sides to remove them, genius!

Newcastle's Hidden Gems
AD
I have lived on the outskirts of Newcastle my whole life and I have been visiting the city centre most weeks since I was a child.
I like to think that I know my way around Newcastle as I have visited that often, but I think when you live somewhere you take the city you live in for granted and stick to places you know and don't appreciate all the wonderful things around you.
So when Travelodge got in touch to ask about hidden gems in Newcastle I was unsure of what to say. Newcastle has a bit of a reputation as a party city full of hen and stag parties and the cast of Geordie shore getting mortal, along with football fans in black and white strips. Yes, Newcastle is like that it has an amazing nightlife with so many bars and clubs and a very loyal football following.
The city is more than that though.

A Better Man By Leah McLaren Book Review
AD
Since becoming a mam I rarely have the time to read, so when I recently heard about the Britmums book club I swiftly joined up in the hope of discovering some new books and reigniting my passion for reading.
I was sent a book called 'A Better Man' by Leah McLaren, an author and book I had not heard of before. However the blurb on the back of the book seemed intriguing, it read
" Maya wants Nick to be less of a workaholic, to come home earlier, to spend some time with his children."
" Nick wants a divorce."

Disney On Ice
AD
Yesterday we were lucky enough to watch Disney on Ice at Newcastle's Metro radio arena. I love Disney on Ice, I use to take my eldest every year until a few years ago when she lost interest in princesses. However now my toddler Sophia is two she has taken an interest in Disney and adores the movies and characters, Minnie Mouse and Toy Story are firm favourites.

My First Thomas & Friends Rail Rollers Spiral Station - Review
AD
We were recently sent a My First Thomas & Friends Rail Rollers Spiral Station toy for my one year old son to review. I just knew that both my children would love this toy as they both like Thomas and this toy was unlike anything that they already have.
There was no screws, batteries or anything to build as the whole toy just clips together easily with super simple diagram instructions included. It only took me around five minutes to build the toy.

The Marriott Hotel Gateshead Metrocentre : Review
AD
* The Marriott hotel Gateshead is now a Delta hotel *
Last week we stayed at the Marriott hotel Newcastle, Gateshead Metrocentre as part of the Beamish Package that they offer. I wrote about the package as a whole earlier in the week but thought that I would do a proper review of the hotel. The hotel is located near the A1 right opposite Europe's largest leisure and shopping complex the Metrocentre and just a short ten-minute journey away from Newcastle city centre. The hotel is rated 4 star and is perfect for both business and leisure purposes.

Pampers Wonder Week Of Deals
AD
Having a baby is truly amazing and even though babies are tiny they can be so expensive! You think once you have decorated the nursery, brought your pram and filled the wardrobes full of cute little outfits that the expensive part is over, wrong! Baby's grow out of clothes so quickly I am forever buying my son new clothes and then I also have to buy nappies, baby milk and toiletries for him every week and it all soon adds up.
So when I heard of Pampers Wonder Week of deals I thought what a fantastic idea as it is sure to save us parents some money on baby essentials like nappies in the run-up to Christmas.

The Marriott Hotel Beamish Package
AD
* Please note this package is no longer available as the Marriot hotel at the Metrocentre is now a Delta hotel *
Living in the North East we are lucky to have so many great attractions but my absolutely all-time favourite has to be Beamish. I have been visiting since I was a child and never get bored, If you are unsure of what Beamish is then it is an open-air working museum based in Durham, telling the story of what life was really like in the North East in the 1820s, 1900's and 1940s. So when Marriott hotel got in contact to tell us about their new Beamish package and invited us along to try it out how could I say no?

Potty Training With Thomas And Friends Review & Giveaway
AD
My toddler was two at the end of May and we knew that it would not be long before she was ready for potty training. We went out and brought her a potty which has been in the lounge for a few months so she got used to it and we also got her some pull-ups and big girl knickers.
Two week's ago we knew the time was right to just go for it and give potty training a go.

Gung-Ho Came To Newcastle
AD
On Saturday, September 19th Gung-Ho the fun 5k giant inflatable obstacle course came to Newcastle racecourse and we went along to see what it was all about.
Gung-Ho is like nothing you have ever seen before it is a 5k run but it is not any old run, oh no this is a 5k run that is an obstacle course and the obstacles are giant inflatables that are seriously fun. I am not just talking bouncy castles either they are really impressive huge inflatable obstacles that are fun for adults and older children. There was a climbing wall, giant ball pool, foam filled maze and the giant Thriller which is a 5 storey high slide, which is Europe's biggest inflatable slide.

How To Grow Your Pinterest Account And Get More Blog Traffic
AD - I attended an event by Pinterest.
I love Pinterest and could happily spend hours looking at amazing cakes or children's bedroom decor, but I don't really use it to promote my blog. I am also guilty of going on once every so often pinning tons of pretty things then neglecting my account for weeks at a time.
So when I heard that Pinterest UK was holding an event for bloggers in Newcastle at the biscuit factory, I knew I had to attend and find out how Pinterest actually works. The event was held by Lizzie who works for Pinterest UK and this is what I learnt.

Jungle Jacks Soft Play At Eldon Leisure Newcastle
AD
* Jungle Jacks Soft Play has now shut down*
The summer holidays have been a bit of a washout here in the North East with lots of rainy days and not many sunny days. I have discovered a brilliant new place right in the heart of Newcastle that will appeal to children young and old, the newly refurbished Eldon leisure complex.
Situated upstairs in Eldon Square the centre has been part of a £3 million development project which includes an upgraded gym, 8 lane ten pin bowling alley, Vertigo climbing area and Jungle Jacks soft play as well as two cafes. We were invited to try out the new facilities and we decided to try out the new soft play, as my baby and toddler adore trips to the soft play.

Professor Scrubbington's Review & Giveaway
AD
* Update Professor Scrubbington's has now shut down *
When I attended Britmums Live in June I discovered a bottle of Magically foaming hand and face wash from Professor Scrubbington's Emporium of clean in my goody bag. I had never tried these products before and my children were amazed that the hand wash actually foams in their hands, making washing hands fun. I was impressed and loved the fresh scent and stylish packaging. So when I was offered the chance to try out the rest of the range I was looking forward to seeing what it was like.
We were sent a box suitcase of products from Professor Scrubbington's Emporium of clean, which I thought was a fun way to package them. Inside was Magically foaming hand and face wash, Magically foaming shampoo, Magically foaming conditioner, Magically foaming hair and body wash and a Magically fragrant roll on.
These products were designed for young people to help encourage them to keep themselves clean, with easy to squeeze bottles and products that foam in the hands making keeping clean fun and easy.

What Baby Jacob Wore : George At Asda
AD
One place that I often shop for baby clothing is George at Asda. I have brought all three of my children's vests and babygrows from here.
So when I was sent the challenge of dressing my ten month old son in George baby clothes for a week for the #WBabyWT (What baby wore today challenge) I was well up for the challenge. Firstly I could not believe how much we managed to get as the clothes were such fantastic value. We got a short and shirt set, joggers and t-shirt set, dungarees set with t-shirt and socks, a romper suit, 2 pairs of shorts, 2 t-shirts, a hoody and two pairs of pyjamas for the bargain price of £44. There were enough clothes to last a week as well as the two pairs of pyjamas.

Don't Fear The Mess With Pampers Baby Wipes
AD
Being a mam of three and having two young children only 14 months apart (I have a 2-year-old and 11-month-old) means that I am used to the mess that baby's and children can bring. My kids just seem to love getting messy.
Baby wipes have been my saviour these last two years, I clean a lot of little bottoms having two little ones in nappies. But Baby wipes are not just great for nappy changes they get used for everything in this household, such as cleaning sticky hands and faces, cleaning messy highchairs - the list goes on as they have endless uses. And they are also rather brilliant at doing what they are meant to do and cleaning little bottoms.

Why I Want My Daughter's To Be #LikeAGirl Unstoppable
AD
As a mam to two daughters - one of which is almost a teenager, I worry a lot, as being a teenager in today's society can be hard work. You are expected to perform well at school, sometimes school can be tough as other girls can be rather mean and your body is changing as you reach puberty. You are also often expected to conform to how society think's you should be.
So when I heard about the new #LikeAGirl Unstoppable campaign from Always I knew that I had to find out more as I remember watching the original campaign last year. Last years campaign set out to challenge the negative perception people often have to do things "like a girl " as it is often used as an insult. I know I have heard this phrase said a lot of times with people saying things such as "don't cry like a girl " or "don't throw like a girl", often to boys.
The campaign went viral last year and was viewed more than 85 million times in 150 countries and shared by more than 1.5 million people worldwide.

Bubabloon : Review
AD
Every child seems to love balloons, I know that I did as a child and that all three of my own children love nothing better then playing with balloons. However, as a mum, I always worry that the balloon will burst and my toddler or baby will put it in their mouth and choke on it.
So when I heard about Bubabloon, a fabric sensory balloon cover I was very intrigued. Bubabloon is a clever little invention that is a fabric cover for balloons which protects little ones from choking whilst still enabling the balloon to be light and bouncy and be played with the same way a regular balloon would be played with.

Slimming World Mushy Pea Curry Recipe
When I heard people talking about mushy pea curry at my Slimming World class and saying how easy it is to make and delicious it tasted I thought I would give it a try. I will admit when I heard people talking about it I thought it sounded horrible but it really is tasty and very filling, it works well with rice or as a jacket potato topping.
So here is my version of the recipe.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- 2 tins of mushy peas
- 1 tin of baked beans
- 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
- Diced chicken ( optional )
- 1 large sliced onion
- Few sliced mushrooms ( optional )
- 2 crushed cloves of garlic
- 1 teaspoon chilli powder
- 2 tablespoons of medium curry powder

In two weeks time I will be off to London to attend Britmums Live which is a two-day blogging and social media event. It will be my very first time attending any kind of blogging event and is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I know that I will learn a lot, which will hopefully in turn help me to improve and grow my blog in the future.
And it is thanks to my amazing sponsor that I am able to attend this event. I am so pleased to announce that my sponsor is MAM UK. A brand that I am sure will need no introduction as I bet all parents and parents-to-be are aware of the brilliant baby and toddler products they make.

Pikku The Best Children's Hair Salon In Newcastle
AD
* Update 2025 - Pikku has now closed down, however a new children's salon called Little Locks Gosforth is now open at the same place with some of the Pikku staff *
Last week I took Sophia aged two to get her hair cut at Pikku on Gosforth high street, just outside of Newcastle. As a mum of three, I have been to many children hair salons over the years and Pikku is without a doubt the best one we have been to - I honestly think it is the best one in the Newcastle area.
Pikku is situated on Gosforth high street opposite the Brandling Arms right in the heart of the high street, it is just a few minutes drive from Newcastle city centre. Many of the buses to and from Newcastle pass through, it is also just a short walk from regent centre metro and there are two car parks located very close by.

Wicked Uncle Online Toy Shop Review
AD
Being a mam of three children I love shopping for gifts for them for birthdays and Christmas, but when it comes to shopping for friends or relatives children I don't have a clue what to buy them. So when I heard of Wicked Uncle online toy shop I was pleased to see that this was an online toy shop that would make this task a lot easier.
The website is really easy to navigate and is broken down into sections by age and gender, making it so simple to select a gift for whoever you are buying for. You just click on the age and gender of the child you are buying for and a selection of toys will show up to suit a range of different budgets.
There is a good range of toys available to suit any child and budget and you can even choose to have your item gift wrapped and sent directly to the person you got it for, perfect for sending to a child you may not see often. It makes present buying so stress-free.

Chemist Direct : Review
AD
As a mam of three, with two of my children being very young shopping, can be a bit of a nightmare. I avoid it as best I can these days and prefer to do most of my shopping online. Clothes, groceries, Christmas and birthday presents are all ordered online from the comfort of my own home.
So when I heard of Chemist Direct I thought what a brilliant idea, as it is as the name suggests an online chemist. You can order your prescriptions online and medicines if you are unwell and unable to get out of the house. You can also order everyday toiletries, beauty products, baby products and they even have a holiday and pet section.

Kids Don't Come With A Manual : Book Review & Giveaway
AD
How many time's have you heard the phrase " I wish kids came with a manual?" lots of times I bet, I for one know that I have uttered those very words myself on more than one occasion. Everything you buy these days has a manual, but when you have children who are the most precious thing in the world we are expected to just get on with things on our own.
Being a parent is amazing and yes we do trust our instincts and manage to look after our children just fine. But sometimes it is hard and we second guess ourselves as parents.

Slimming World Diet Coke Chicken Recipe
I have been trying out lots of new healthy recipes and one of the recipes I kept hearing was diet coke chicken. So here is my version of the recipe.

Foods To Eat When You Have Gallstones
When I was 32 weeks pregnant with baby number two I suffered horrendous tummy pains - seriously it was more painful than childbirth! After numerous tests and an ultrasound scan I was diagnosed with gallstones, which are apparently very common during or soon after pregnancy. As I was pregnant and on a maternity ward at the time the medical staff did not give me much information other than to try and avoid foods with more than 5% fat in.
I was unable to get my gallbladder removed due to being pregnant and there was no way I wanted to suffer that pain again (I had 4 attacks in a week). So I spent hours searching online to see what I could eat without trigging another gallstone attack. Honestly there wasn't very much information available and the information that was available was very contradictory.
I lived with gallstones for six months before I got my gallbladder removed, getting it removed was the best thing I did and 9 years later I have not suffered any complications or pain.
Over the six months that I lived with gallstones I worked out what I could eat without triggering an attack and what foods were safe to eat with gallstones and what foods to avoid.
The best advice I can give is to not eat any foods with more than 5% fat in them, check labels and avoid foods that you know will trigger a gallstone attack.

March Degustabox
AD
I have been sent a monthly food subscription box each month for the last few months to review from Degustabox. On Wednesday I received the March box, and I have to say that this month's box was probably my favourite one so far.
So here is a look at what was inside.
- One Packet of Jordan's Granola RRP £3.69. This is a lighter version of normal granola with 40 % less fat in.
- Two bottle's of Juice burst juice RRP £1.25 each so £2.50 in total. We were sent the mango and lime skinny flavour and the cranberry one.
- One bottle of BBQUE sauce RRP £3.99. This is an original Bavarian barbecue sauce which is available in four flavours, we were sent the original one and this is perfect to use as a marinade, on barbecues or as a dipping sauce.
- One packet of Sour Patch Kids RRP £1.00.
- Two bottles of Crabbie's Fruits RRP £1.50 each so £3.00 in total. These are alcoholic fruity drinks. We were sent the black cherry and the raspberry and rhubarb flavours, there is also a zesty lemon one too.
- One pot of Kent's Kitchen posh noddles RRP £1.75.
- One box of Natvia RRP £2.00.
- Two packets of Brioche Pasquier baked bread bites RRP £0.50 each so £1.00 in total.
- We also received one bottle of green tea and fruit juice although I am not sure on the RRP of this and have not tried it yet.
I think that Degustabox is an amazing service as you get to try out lots of new products that you may never have heard of before. It is also amazing value as the box only costs £12.99 per month including postage and packaging fees and the contents of this month's box came to £24.41 so almost double what I would have paid for the box. I received ten different products in this months box but fourteen products in total. There was a good mix of drinks, treats and healthy products.
Why not have a look at what I thought of the February Degustabox .
