Yesterday we were lucky enough to go and watch Disney on Ice at Newcastle's Metro radio arena. I love Disney on Ice, I use to take my eldest every year until a few years ago when she lost interest in princesses. However now my toddler Sophia is two she has taken an interest in Disney and adores the movies and characters, Minnie Mouse and Toy Sory are firm favourites. So when we were given the chance to go and see the show I knew Sophia would love it, of course, my eldest decided she still liked Disney so she came too along with my partner and my three-year-old niece Heidi, as we thought Jacob (aged 13 months) would be too young to join us.
Sophia is still a little too young to understand where we were going but when I told my niece Heidi she was so excited and her little face lit up at the mention of seeing Anna and Elsa, she is a huge Frozen fan. We decided to go to the 11 am weekend performance as we thought this was best for the little two girls, we were not alone in thinking this as the arena was packed with excited toddlers and children many of whom were dressed up in costumes of their favourite princesses.

We quickly found our seats and settled down for the show with some popcorn and a buzz of excitement in the air from all the little audience members. The show kicked off as usual with everyone's all-time favourite Disney characters Mickey and Minnie mouse who introduced the show. This year the show was split into four different stories which were Toy Story 3, The Little Mermaid, Cars and Frozen.
The first scene was set out like Andy's bedroom as he took to the stage and started off the show just as he does in the film packing for college and wondering what to do with his beloved toys. The crowd went crazy when Woody, Buzz, Jessie and friends took to the stage, Sophia's little face little up as she pointed out these much-loved characters. For the next 30 minutes the cast re-enacted the Toy story 3 tale on ice complete with a visit to Sunnyside day nursery, Woody's escape on a kite, a giant mean Lotso bear and a tenses rescue by the claw.
The star of the story had to be Barbie and Ken as they totally stole the show with amazing skating routines and fantastic costumes, they looked like actual plastic dolls. Sophia did not take her eyes off the stage as she was amazed that she was seeing her all-time favourite film being shown before her very eyes on the ice.
Next up we were taking on a tale "under the sea" with Ariel, The Little Mermaid is my favourite Disney film and I was so excited about this. Once again the costumes were amazing, I loved flounder's costume who skated around flapping his fins. The stage was set up all bright and colourful with the well-knowing songs from the film and some amazing skating by Ariel.
A quick fifteen-minute break gave us time to grab some chips and drinks for the girls before it was lights out and time for the second half of the show. Mickey, Minnie and friends kicked off the show again with a ride in their car which broke down and leads nicely to the introduction of the cast of Cars. The cars were amazing driving around the ice with ease and they were so like the film with moving faces and bouncing up and down, we were very impressed. Lighting McQueen and friends were only on for a short while before the grand finale Frozen.
The rink was transformed into Arendale as Anna took the stage singing and the crowd went wild with all the children screaming with excitement. Heidi's little face lit up as she watched the scenes before her unfold and the utter joy on her face as she spotted Elsa come to the stage was priceless as she shouted: "she's at the window". We watched on as Anna fell for prince Hans, Elsa turned the rink into a snowstorm and found refuge in the North Mountain before the instantly recognisable tune of " Let it go " filled the air. Every child was singing along at the top of their voice, including Heidi.
Olaf taking to the stage brought plenty of cheers as he skated his way around singing "summer" and the rest of the story unfolded before our eyes with truly amazing skating and stunning costumes. I am sure that all of the children in the audience thought that they were watching the real life Anna and Elsa as the whole performance was flawless. Frozen ended on a high with rounds of applause from the audience as thousands of happy children and adults left the arena in high spirits.

We had a truly amazing afternoon watching Disney on Ice and all five of us have agreed that Frozen was without a doubt amazing. Sophia has never shown any interest in Frozen but even she left the arena singing " Let it go". Heidi was full of excitement and could not stop talking about the show and even Chloe who is almost 13 enjoyed the show and said she wants to go again next year, proving you are never too old for Disney.
After seeing so many Disney on Ice shows over the years I honestly thought that things could not get any better, well this show was without a doubt the best one yet. The cast was amazing with breathtaking skating skills, the costumes were beautiful and you could tell so much care had gone into the props and story. The show was just the right length of time for little ones and is a show that the whole family can enjoy no matter what age they are, as my teen enjoyed it just as much as my toddler. The show was magical and amazing and I would recommend you go see it if you get the chance. You can see how much Sophia and Heidi enjoyed the show in the little video I made.
