I know that everyone says this but I can not believe that February is almost over! As you all may know I have been suffering from depression and anxiety since I had my little man a year and a half ago and I am slowly starting to feel more like me again. However I know that in order to start feeling happier in myself I need to start making some time for myself instead of always focusing on my children, this blog and housework. So I have decided that at the end of each month I will write a little post of all the things that I have loved that month.
So here are a few things that I have been loving in February 2016.
1.) Reading, before I had my little two children I adored reading and would read at least one new book per week. Every evening I would relax with a bubble bath and a good book which I would devour in a few days. Ever since I was a young child I have loved reading, I love nothing more than getting lost in a new book and find it the perfect way to relax. As I want to have more 'me' time this year I knew that I wanted to start reading again and I have been reading this amazing book from Mumsnet book club called The Forgetting Time (full review coming soon), which I read in an evening as I just could not put it down.
2.) Me Time. Following on from rediscovering reading I have also been making more of an effort to cut myself some slack and start looking after myself this month. I have been spending a lot less time on this blog and have actually been having a few evenings each week where I just relax in a bubble bath and watch a film with the other half or one of my trashy TV shows. Yep, I'm a fan of Ex on the beach and Celebrity big brother - which is trashy TV at its finest.
3.) A new haircut. I have had long waist length hair for years and years and even though I loved it I was finding it just too high maintenance. It would take me 2 hours just to dry and straighten it every time I washed it and I never had time to do anything with it so it was always tied in a plait out the way. I decided that I just couldn't be bothered with it anymore so I had it all chopped off and now I have hair just above my shoulders. It is so much easier to manage but I must admit I am missing my long locks.
4.) New phone. I also got around to upgrading my contract this month, after having my old trusty battered iPhone 5s for years I have finally upgraded to a shiny newer iPhone. I ended up ordering the wrong colour, doh! but I am actually starting to like it after a few weeks and find the bigger screen so much better for checking social media and blog reading.
5.) Fitting into a size smaller clothing. I re-joined Slimming World earlier in the year and while I may not have lost weight as quickly as I would like I have dropped a dress size over the last few weeks. Buying clothes, especially jeans in a smaller size is such a nice feeling and one that I hope I keep getting to experience throughout the year as I continue with my weight loss journey.
6.) Time with the other half. Having three children means that myself and the other half very rarely get any time on our own as we always have the two little children with us. However yesterday all three children went out with their grandma for the day so rather then just staying in and doing housework which I had originally planned to do we decided to head to are local pub for lunch. It was so nice just spending time together and being able to talk without constant distraction and interruption from little people.
7.) Spending time with the kids at half-term. It was also half term the other week and having all three children home all week was lovely. We did not do a lot as the other half was working all week but we did go out for lunch at Toby Carvery, we visited family and myself and my eldest went out for lunch and to see Goosebumps at the cinema, which we both really enjoyed. I love half term as not only do I get time with my girls but it also just feels so much more relaxed without the routine of school and nursery to stick to.
8.) Watching Vera on TV. One of my favourite TV shows that I love watching on a Sunday night is Vera, I know it is a police murder show but I love guessing who's done it. As the show is set in the north east I also love seeing places that I recognise, it also makes me realise that I live in such a beautiful part of the country as I grew up in Northumberland where the show is set.
9.) Sleep. My little man has eventually started sleeping all night properly and I have to say it has made me so happy actually getting a full nights sleep every night. I think the sleep deprivation played a huge part in me feeling so low and now that he is sleeping I am finding myself less shouty and grumpy as I don't feel so tired all the time.
10.) Starting to feel like myself again. I really am starting to feel like myself again lately, I am wanting to go out and do stuff again and I don't feel so down and overwhelmed any more. It is a nice feeling to not constantly feel like I am sinking any more and not be so upset and grumpy all the time. Don't get me wrong I still have a long way to go and still have bad days but the good days far outweighing the bad at the moment and it such a wonderful feeling.
So that is what I have been loving this month, what have you been loving this month? I would love to know in the comments below.
