Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to the first Other Bloggers Family Lives post of 2017, this week I am featuring Sophia (love that name, it is my youngest daughters name too) from Tattooed Tealady. I only discovered Sophia's blog a few months ago and I am already a big fan, it is a blog that is packed with everything from beauty, books, food and parenting.
So let's find out more about the family behind Tattooed Tealady.
1.) Tell me a bit about yourself and your family?
I'm Sophia, a 28-year-old Psychology graduate who writes about beauty, books and food as well as my experience through my first pregnancy and parenting now that I am a first time Mama to my baby daughter, Willow. My partner and I have been together going on 5 years now and we always knew we wanted to start a family together, but I wanted to finish university first - where I was a mature student, going back to education in my 20's. We live together in a lovely rented property, which we moved into over the summer, going for a bigger home with a proper garden for Willow as she grows up. My partner works full-time, whereas I am currently on maternity leave; although I work part-time from home, as well as being self-employed part time too.
2.) Where do you live?
We live in the East Midlands, right in the middle of Nottingham and Leicester, surrounded by beautiful countryside. I am definitely a country bumpkin at heart and although I lived in London during my early years at university, I definitely prefer living out in the sticks than in the big city.
3.) What is your favourite thing to do as a family where you live?
There is a beautiful big park in the centre of our town that is great for a day out when the weather is good. There's an aviary with lots of birds for children to explore and learn about, a museum in the grounds with a cafe and play area, as well as a huge area of grass for playing and picnics. If that wasn't enough there is a massive adventure playground, which Willow is a little young for at the moment but always looks like so much fun so I am sure she will enjoy it when she is older. It's a fab destination for a fun, free day out together.
4.) If you could live anywhere where would you?
I'm a Nottingham girl through and through, so if I moved somewhere else within the UK it would have to have its own castle like Nottingham. Edinburgh has always had a special place in my heart. I absolutely adore Scotland, I think it's an incredible beautiful country with so much to offer and I would love to move there one day as a family.
Somewhere else I have always wanted to live is Cyprus. My family are from Cyprus and I think, if money permits it, Cyprus is where I will retire.
5.) Did you grow up close to where you live now and what are your favourite childhood memories of where you grew up?
My partner grew up in the town we live in, and my family home is just a 10-minute drive away in a little picturesque village, but I also moved around a lot when my parents split up when I was six. With my mum and step-dad we lived in 6 different places in 3 different cities; Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.
My favourite childhood memories in Nottingham are day trips to Wollaton Hall or afternoons spent by the riverside. From Leicester I always have found memories of the Carribean carnival in the summer, and how delicious the food was. In Derby my favourite memories are always the Sundays we would spend walking around Matlock Bath.
6.) Have you got any exciting family plans for the year ahead?
We plan to have our first family holiday, to Cyprus, early this year. It has been 11 years since I was last there and we want Willow's first holiday abroad to be there. I really can't wait! I'm excited not only to go back to the country that I have always felt is really home, but also to take Willow somewhere that is so special to me.
7.) What is your favourite thing about family life?
Love. The way each day I feel more strongly in love with our life, our family, then the day before. The way we teach each other something new every single day and help each other grow. Family life was turbulent for me growing up, so it means so much to be able to give Willow the family she deserves. I can't wait for all the adventures we will have together as she grows older!
Thank you so much for taking part Sophia, I have loved reading your answers and finding out more about your family life in the East Midlands. I have never visited Nottingham before but have heard such great things about it from friends and the park in the town you live sounds so lovely, I wish we had something like that near us. I hope you have a wonderful time in Cyprus and Willow enjoys her first holiday abroad.
