Thomas & Friends My First All Around Sodor Train Set - Review

My little boy Jacob recently turned two years old and he seems to have changed so much recently, his interests have certainly changed and he is now vehicle crazy! He loves any kind of vehicle from cars and tractors to planes and trains, he really loves trains! During the summer we went on a Thomas train ride at Saltwell park and ever since he has been Thomas crazy, playing with his very own Thomas train non stop and getting excited when it comes on the TV.

Now that he is two and train crazy we were planning on getting him a Thomas & Friends Train set for Christmas as we seen them advertised and just knew that he would love it. However we were recently sent a one to review and as expected Jacob absolutely loves it - as does his three year old sister.

Thomas All Around Sodor Train Set Review

We were sent the Thomas & Friends My First All Around Sodor train set which is suitable from aged 18 months +, having just turned two Jacob is the perfect age for this set. As soon as Jacob laid eyes on the train set he could not wait to get it out of the box and play. Luckily setting up the train set was super simple, you just needed to clip the track into place - it only took a few minutes and comes with easy to follow instructions. Thomas even came complete with batteries so Jacob could start playing straight away.

As soon as Thomas was places onto the track Jacob managed to press the button and set the train off around the track. Thomas has three different coloured and shaped buttons, when pressed they each direct Thomas to different parts of the track. If you press the yellow shed button Thomas heads to Tidmouth sheds where he will stop and interact with Percy, Gordon, James and Sir Topham Hatt. Press the green crane shaped button and Thomas heads to chat to Cranky the Crane at Brendon Docks. Press the blue train shaped button and Thomas will circle the track.

Jacob was amazed that Thomas moved on his own around the track, he also really liked that Thomas eyes and mouth moved too whilst he was talking, making him rather life like. Thomas also comes with a trailer that you can attach to him and when he stops off you can load and unload barrels from. The track felt really sturdy and even with my two toddlers - aged two and three playing with it, none of it came undone. I was also rather impressed that Thomas did not come off the track either, the only time he came off was when one of my little ones grabbed him off to play on the floor with.

We all really liked this toy train set, it was so much fun for my little ones - who have spent hours playing with this track. It is very well made and super quick and easy to set up and best of all when your little ones are finished playing with the set you can quickly and easily take it all apart and put it back into the box.

I think that Thomas & Friends All around Sodor Train set would make a wonderful Christmas gift idea if you have a young Thomas fan. It is recommended from ages 18 month + but both my two and three year old were fascinated with it and have had so much fun playing with it. This is a toy that will last them for many more years to come and is something that I know will be played with again and again.

You can buy Thomas & Friends All Around Sodor Train set from Smyths priced at £39.99 and I honestly think it is worth every penny as it is such a lovely train set that will bring hours of fun.

Does your little one like Thomas?

Disclosure We were sent this train set for the purpose of this review, however all views are my own.

  1. You know my boy became Thomas obsessed at 2 and still is at 5. He had SO many of the toys, knows all the trains, constantly watching and reading about him. Even my 19 month old daughter is getting into it now, not that she has much choice! They would both enjoy this!
