Afternoon Tea With The Easter Bunny

Yesterday we went for afternoon tea with the Easter bunny and are local Wyevale garden centre in Gosforth. The garden centre is located just outside of Newcastle, right next to Newcastle racecourse (it use to be called Peter Barret's garden centre) and is only a five-minute drive from where we live.

Tea with the Easter bunny was due to start at 4pm and we arrived at around ten too and made our way to the cafe, where the event was due to take place. Despite living so close to the garden centre I have not visited for years and was actually quite impressed, as not only was it well stocked with everything you would expect from a garden centre but it also had a great selection of toys and clothes and even a soft play area too.

We made our way to the cafe where we were greeted by Alice (in wonderland) and shown to our table which was laid out with Easter decorations, colouring sheets, drinks for the children and an afternoon tea stand. There was around eight families at the event, so it was not too busy and we were all seated to one side of the large cafe.  When booking you are asked your child's name and ages so it was nice to see they had thought to put a highchair out for my 18 month old

When you book your place you can either pick from a choice of hot or cold meals for children which are both priced at £9.99 each. We decided to get the cold meals which came in a picnic bag and included a cheese sandwich, packet of crisps, some raisins, gingerbread men and a jelly pouch which the children enjoyed.

For adults, you can choose from a mini tea which consists of a slice of cake with tea or coffee priced at £3.99 or an afternoon tea which comes with mini finger sandwiches, scone with cream and jam and a selection of mini cakes, again served with tea or coffee. We opted for the afternoon tea which is priced at £7.99 per person.

After we had finished our tea Alice then took us on an Easter egg hunt around the garden centre, the children were giving some Haribo sweets when they found the picture of the giant Easter Eggs dotted around. The Egg hunt lead us back to the cafe where the Easter bunny was waiting for us, my almost three year was amazed when she saw the bunny. The children were told to return to their tables, which had been cleared and a packet of mini eggs and a cookie and decorating items were waiting for them. So they could get to work decorating an Easter cookie as the bunny made her way around all of the tables to see the children one by one.

As the bunny visited all the tables each child was able to get their photo taken with the Easter bunny and they could also select a cuddly toy from the Bunny's basket to take home. Both Sophia and Jacob chose a cuddly yellow chick each. Then it was time to head home, the whole event lasted around an hour which is just right for pre-school aged children.

We had a really nice time, the event was well planned and the children were entertained throughout. The only small criticism that I have is that when we arrived the afternoon tea stands were already on the tables and we had to wait a while for the children's meals to arrive, so obviously the children were impatient and eating the afternoon tea. It would have been better if all the meals arrived out together. Other then that though I could not fault the event, I thought it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon and was great fun for little ones.

If you are looking for something fun to do with your children in the run-up to Easter then I really do recommend this event. I think it is great value as the afternoon tea was delicious and fantastic value. The children's meals may seem expensive at £9.99 but they not only include the meal but also the Easter Egg hunt, cookie decorating, mini eggs and the chance to meet the Easter bunny and receive a gift. Wyevale garden centres are running these events until the 28th of March at centres around the country. You can also book Breakfast with the Easter bunny if you prefer rather then afternoon tea, which is the same price and includes a cooked breakfast instead.

Disclosure We were invited to this event free of charge for the purpose of this review, however all views are my own.

  3. That is such great value for afternoon tea, I usually pay around £30-40 in London for something similar. The judge of a great afternoon tea is always the scones and now I really want a scone haha x

  5. We've never been to one of these, although it's a bit of a drive to get to our local one. The price seems reasonable to include all of that.
