Hyde Park Lane Apartments Lanzarote Review

As a family we love to visit Lanzarote in the Canary Islands and have visited four times over the last few years. One of the places we have stayed is Hyde Park Lane apartments or some people call them bungalows in the Los Pocillos area near Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote. We visited as a family with two children (aged 10 and 8 years old when we visited).

We booked this holiday to Hyde Park Lane, Lanzarote as a package with Jet2 Holidays and flew from Newcastle airport. We visited in the May and booked on a self catering basis and we got a free child place included.

Hyde Park Lane

Hyde Park Lane is rated three stars and it is made up of little one or two bedroom bungalows and they also have villas with private pools. It is located in the quiet Los Pocillos area of Lanzarote just outside of the popular resort of Puerto del Carmen.

It has a 24 hour reception area which is really modern and had friendly reception staff when we visited. The transfer bus drops you off right outside the reception area. I would say that it is accessible as it was all flat on one level and there was lifts to get to the two lower levels which was the spa and the on-site supermarket. They even have a hoist seat to help people access the pool which we witnessed a few wheelchair users use during our stay.

There is two pools, a small splash area for children, a small play park, an on site spa, bar, restaurant, on site mini supermarket, laundry facilities, pool tables, secure luggage storage and a small gym and an adult only whirlpool.

There is well maintained gardens and the whole complex is spotless and so quiet and peaceful. When we visited there was a few resident cats snoozing around the complex but they never bothered us and looked well cared for.

Staying At Hyde Park Lane

We had an afternoon flight so we didn't land until around 8pm at night and it was around 9/9.30pm by the time we cleared security and arrived at Hyde Park Lane. It is not far at all from the airport about a ten minute drive, the transfer took us about half an hour as we were the third stop.

On arrival the friendly reception staff checked us in and give us a map to show us where our room was. We did not realise that the complex is split in to two - there is the main complex where the reception and bar and main pool is and this is where all the bungalow style rooms are located. Then across the road there is a smaller complex with a smaller pool and some more apartments and these rooms are not like bungalows they are apartments with ground floor and first floor rooms.

We had emailed in advance and asked to be located near the pool for the children however we were probably as far away from the pool as you could be, in the far end of the complex across the road. We had a downstairs room and you could hear the people above and next door, so that is just something to be aware of.

The apartment we had consisted of a small terrace with a table and two chairs, it had a built in chimney style bbq but we didn't use this. It has patio doors that opened into the lounge which had two beds made up for the children a desk area and TV, there was sliding doors in the lounge to a small kitchen area - we didn't use this as we ate out for every meal so I am not sure what was there.

There was a bathroom with walk in shower and a bedroom with plenty of wardrobe space and hangers, a safe which was free to use and two single beds pushed together to make a double. The apartment was modern, clean and tidy and had enough space for the four of us and the cleaners came in daily. The rooms also had air conditioning in them and the free WI-FI was decent.

Food

We had booked self-catering but you can upgrade to bed and breakfast or half - board. We upgraded to bed and breakfast on arrival as it worked out cheaper than doing it via Jet2, we just paid for the week and for us it was worth it with the children.

Breakfast was really good they had a hot counter with someone cooking fresh eggs and omelettes, there was cooked breakfast items. They made fresh smoothies every day, there was lots of fresh fruit,  cheese's, cold meats and bakery items.

You could book to visit the restaurant on a evening as a one off or upgrade for the full week, we didn't visit but have heard it was good. They serve food at the bar during the day and we did order lunch a few times - the children enjoyed hot dogs, chips and toasties and the prices were really reasonable. They also serve ice lollies and ice creams during the day and the drinks at the bar were well priced too.

On an evening the bar is open and you can sit and enjoy a drink however when we visited there was no evening entertainment just background music.

Facilities

As I mentioned there was two pools at Hyde Park Lane - the main pool next to the bar and then a smaller pool across the road. You can use either pool and there was always plenty of sunbeds available when we visited as they did not let you reserve sunbeds. They had lifeguards on duty at the pools and the pools opened around 9 / 10 am until around 6pm (don't quote me on that). One thing worth mentioning is that inflatables were not allowed in the pool when we visited.

We spent most of our time at the main pool as we just preferred it, there was music playing around the pool and you could go to the bar to get drinks or lunch. There was also toilets located next to this pool. The main pool says that it is heated but it was freezing, we all soon warmed up once in the water though. It was fairly deep and it had steps slanting down into the pool at either end as well as metal stairs on the sides of the pool. The main pool had a small toddler pool next to it and it also has a hoist chair for disabled guests.

They sometimes did water aerobics during the day in the main pool when we visited. There was a small splash pad area for younger children in a gated area near the main pool, there was also a small play park too. They have a small whirlpool for adults and a small gym area as well as pool tables.

The second pool is located across the road at the other complex where we were staying, this was a quieter and smaller pool. We only visited once as it was mostly just adults sunbathing when we were there and there was not as many sunbeds available.

There was a kids club room but when we visited we did not see any kids club type activities  so I am not sure if it is only on during the busier times.

There is a small onsite supermarket, located downstairs (lift available) outside and to the left of reception. This served drinks, bakery items, snacks, bbq stuff to use on the bbqs on the terraces and little gifts and it was really well priced. They also have washing machines located next to the shop, I have no idea how much they cost as we did not use them.

Location

Hyde Park Lane is located in Los Pocillos and is in a really quiet area, there is no bars or shops close by. It is about a 10 minute walk to the nearest shops and bars, it is about a 10 minute walk to the beach and about 15-20 minute walk into Los Pocillos main area and about a 20 minute walk into Puerto del Carmen. The walks are all flat, there is no hills like other parts of Lanzarote but it is a bit out of the way and is near to Rancho Texas.

On a evening we often walked into Puerto del Carmen and then got a taxi back and it only cost around five euro. The reception at Hyde Park Lane will also call you a taxi if you need one. Taxis are readily available in the area with taxi ranks dotted all over the seafront area and they are so affordable.

We booked a trip to Timanfaya national park  (we booked with Travel On who I would recommend for trips as we have used them a few times) to see the volcanos when we stayed and the closest pick up point was outside the San Antonio hotel which was about a 15 minute walk away from Hyde Park Lane. We also visited Rancho Texas during our stay and it is about a five minute walk away along a busy road or you can get a taxi for a few euros.

If you are hiring a car then there was plenty of on street parking close by. If you have a later flight home like we did then there is a secure luggage room where you can lock your cases up, they also have scales to check the weight of your luggage and a vending machine in the luggage room. They have a shower room you can use to get changed before your flight.

What We Thought

We enjoyed our stay at Hyde Park Lane, it was really clean and modern and very peaceful. The staff  were all friendly and the bar and shops were well priced. We enjoyed the breakfast each morning and are glad we upgraded to bed and breakfast.

Hyde Park Lane is a bit far out the way, if you want a peaceful holiday or enjoy walking then you will love the location but if you are like us and like to be close to everything then it is  probably not the best location wise. However we still had a lovely time and we would go back - I love the look of the villas!

I have a video of Hyde Park Lane over on my YouTube channel that I have linked below so you can see what the rooms and complex is like for yourself. We also have lots of other Lanzarote holiday videos over on YouTube (just search Newcastle Family Life) from other hotel reviews, places to eat and day trips we have been on in Lanzarote.
