Diggerland Durham

If you have a digger or tractor mad child then Diggerland is a must-visit day out as the whole park is just filled with so many different tractor and digger activities. It is a great family day out with lots to see and do.

Diggerland has four sites in England - Devon, Kent, Yorkshire and Durham. We visited the Durham site with children aged 11 and 12 and I was worried they might be a bit too old but they both had a good time and there was plenty for them to do.

What Is Diggerland

Diggerland is the UK's only construction theme park where all the activities and rides are digger themed. Children and adults can drive and operate real diggers, tractors, cars and construction machinery in a fun and safe environment.

There are train type rides pulled by a digger, there are rides where you can sit in the scoop of a digger and go up high, spin around or go on a tour of the park, you could play games in diggers or dig holes. They had a jeep safari you can go on, robot tractor and mini tractors to drive as well as go karts. Older children can also drive a police car or a JCB tractor and there was a soft play and smaller rides for young children too.

Diggerland Durham

We visited the Durham Diggerland which is located in Langley Park, there was plenty of free onsite parking available and it was close to a local bus stop. The park is not massive but we still spent a few hours there going on all the diggers. They have a onsite cafe and soft play area and small arcade and gift shop as well as all the outdoor activities.

Some of the rides do have height restrictions and there was a few things that were a small extra charge such as the dodgems and a few arcade type rides but all the main attractions were included with the entrance fee.

Rides Available

The first ride we came across when we entered was the train ride - this is a dumper truck with little carts attached so you can go on a train ride around the park. They have a area where adults can sit and ride and then smaller kiddie carts attached for children to ride in.

diggerland spindizzy

The Spindizzy is a big digger where you sit in the bucket and get spun about - my children enjoyed this but felt dizzy and a bit sick afterwards. There are height restrictions in place for this ride.

There was dumper trucks you could ride around a track, and there was mini and big diggers you can go in and dig up the ground. There was also digger type games you can play such as hook a duck with a digger or skittles.

You can drive mini tractors around a track or dumper trunks or even JCB robots which my children enjoyed.

There was a Skyshuttle ride where you sit in a dumper bucket and get lifted 50 foot into the air. There is also a Groundshuttle ride where you sit in a diggers bucket and go for a ride around the park.

There was a jeep safari you can go on with a ranger who drives you around to see what you can see.

Older children can drive a police car and go on a joy ride - my children loved driving this real car around the track. My 11 year old  son also drove a JCB tractor on his own (family can sit in the cab with you with the instructor).

The Go-Karts were also big hits with my children too.

For smaller children they had crazy trikes, mini land-rovers , Little Tikes to play on and a indoor soft play area to explore.

At the entrance to each ride there is a height chart so you can see what rides are suitable and there is information about each ride which digger fans will find interesting.

There is plenty of benches dotted around the park and near the rides if you are not going on any of the rides and are just watching. The ground is mostly flat with wide paths so would be accessible although most of the rides would not be accessible.

What We Thought

We had a really nice family day out at Diggerland Durham, it was the first time we had been and the children really enjoyed it. The park was really clean and tidy and the staff friendly. We visited on a weekend in October so it was not very busy when we visited and we got on everything pretty much straight away - the longest we had to wait for a ride was about five minutes.

I was worried my children would be a bit too old to enjoy Diggerland as they are aged 11 and 12 years old - however there was so much for them to do. They really enjoyed driving the police car and the JCB as well as the Go-Karts and the digger rides. We spent about three hours at the park.

We visited the on site cafe - the children got lunch and it was well priced. It served things such as burgers, chips, jacket potato's, sandwiches, drinks, ice creams and sweets.

We did not visit the soft play as my children are too old but it is located right next to the cafe and it looked good from what we could see. There is a small gift shop as you exist and again the prices were not too bad, they sell a range of Diggerland merch as well as pocket money type toys and gifts. My daughter got some squishy dumpling toys that cost about £3-£4.
