An Afternoon In Scarborough

Two week's ago we were lucky enough to be invited to stay at the beautiful Ox Pasture Hall Hotel, which is located near Scarborough. Of course being so close to this delightful seaside town we just had to pay it a visit and we ended up spending a lovely afternoon exploring.

Scarborough Castle View

Scarborough is a traditional seaside town located in North Yorkshire surrounded by beautiful countryside. When we arrived in the town centre we noticed that the train station was very central and there were lots of buses, taxis and car parks, making it really easy to get too.

It is only just under two hours from Newcastle, so it is perfect for a day out.

We had a look around the main town centre and I was surprised with just how many shops there actually were, as I normally just visit the beach and had no idea there was such a busy town centre just minutes away. After looking in the shops and buying the children some gifts from the little gift shops and toy shops we made are way down the tramway to the beach.

The tramway cost about 80p each and I thought it was great fun and so quick getting the old-fashioned tram down the side of the hill. It drops you off right on the seafront at the start of all the attractions. First stop when we got off the tramway was to head to Harry Ramsdon's for fish and chips with lashing of salt and vinegar, it has to be done when you are at the seaside.

Luckily the sun was shining and it was a lovely day, so many people were sitting on the beach on the rented stripey deckchairs and children were having donkey rides.

We made our way along the promenade visiting some of the arcades to play on the 2p machines and visited some of the many gift shops that line the street to pick up some rock and sweets for the children.

Ocean Pink Fish

We walked down towards the little fun fair and we stopped off for ice creams from one of the little wooden huts along the harbour whilst watching the fishing boats and boat trips go out to sea. I loved the look of the little pirate boat you could go. We brought some ocean pinks to eat from one of the many fresh fish huts dotted along the promenade too.

We then made our way back along the seafront before boarding the tramway to take us back to the town centre to head to the hotel.

I only wish that we had of had more time to explore this lovely traditional seaside town.

Have you ever visited Scarborough before?
