Other Bloggers Family Lives Featuring Have Kids Will Travel UK

This week on Other Bloggers Family Lives I am featuring Jemma who blogs at Have Kids Will Travel UK, a family travel blog. Jemma blogs about UK days out and travel tips. So let's find out more about the family behind Have Kids Will Travel UK.

1.) Tell me a bit about yourself and your family?

We're the Yorkies and we love exploring! I'm Jemma, mother of the clan and I work as part of a job-share as a culture manager, my husband Mike has his own joinery business and we have two kids, Millie (4) and Austin (2). We have always loved to travel but with all our work and school commitments find it a challenge to take the big wanderlust holidays. With that in mind, we wanted to try an satisfy our exploring bug in the time we have available (weekends and school holidays). We live in Penarth and blog about our adventures.

2.) Where do you live?

We live in a town by the sea called Penarth which is right next to Cardiff in South Wales, UK.

3.) What is your favourite thing to do as a family where you live?

Our favourite thing to do as a family where we live is to wander down to the beach and throw stones into the sea or jump over the waves. It's a pebbly beach and in the UK we don't get a lot of sunshine so it's a rarely sunbathing weather but that doesn't deter the kids. It's also a great base for our adventures, with the city on our doorstep, with changing exhibitions, museums and parks, then the Brecon Beacons and the waterfall county within easy reach. No adventure is too far.

4.) If you could live anywhere where would you?

If we could live anywhere it would probably still be here in all honesty. The only thing I would change is the weather, to make it a tad warmer and sunnier so we could enjoy the outdoors a little more. I have always been in love with New Zealand since I backpacked there when I was a teenager, however, I have such a close family and I would miss them too much!

5.) Did you grow up close to where you live now and what are your favourite childhood memories of where you grew up?

I grew up about five minutes away from where we live now, in fact Millie goes to the same school that I went to and my mum went to. For someone who loves to travel, I always find that quite strange. I just think the town is friendly, has all the amenities you'd want and is so well placed for everything. It's not only me that thinks so, It's often in the top 10 places to live in the UK. Favourite memories are just living in the parks and having the freedom of playing with my friends. It is also a worry that my two won't get that same pleasure with the worries that parents have today.

6.) Have you any exciting plans for the year ahead?

Our plans usually involve travel so we have plenty planned. We are currently working our way through an A-Z challenge of the UK. We've been to Aberystwyth, Blackpool, Christchurch, Dovedale and Edinburgh ....... where we go for our F destination has not been decided. Millie and Austin take with them a big wooden letter (next one will be an F) and have to find everything they can start with an F. They get to take a picture of it and add it to their A-Z adventure book which is building nicely and will be something for them to keep. We're also renovating our house slowly but surely which they are also helping with, so lots going on here!

7.) What is your favourite thing about family life?

Favourite thing about family life? Cuddles with them, so many people that have got grown-up children tell me to make the most of the time as it goes so quickly and I really try to savour it and get as many cuddles as I can. I love seeing them learn and grow and seeing them get excited about things. That's one of the reasons I love to travel and explore with them, it exposes them to a lot of new things.

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions Jemma, it sounds lovely where you live with lots to do nearby. I love that you are taking part in an A-Z of the UK challenge, what a great adventure for you all.
