Tapas Revolution Northern Spain vs Southern Spain Summer Menu Review

*Tapas Revolution Newcastle has now*

AD

Earlier in the year, I was invited to the pre-launch of Tapas Revolution Newcastle, which opened a few months ago in Eldon Square Newcastle. I was very kindly invited back to Tapas Revolution to try out the new Northern Spain vs Southern Spain tapas taster menu.

It was lovely to revisit the restaurant after the launch and even though we visited at 2 pm on a weekday it was still bustling with couples enjoying meals, friends sharing a drink and even families sharing tapas together.

The Northern Spain vs Southern Spain taster tapas menu is amazing value at just £9.95pp for three tapas from the either the North or South of Spain. The two menus are being pitted against each other during the summer with customers voting for their favourite.

Each of the menus has three set dishes and we tried out both menus to see which we thought was the best.

Tapas Revolution Newcastle Review

Northern Spain

The North menu consisted of Pan Con Tomate (Toasted bread with tomatoes, garlic and olive oil), Chorizo A La Sidra (Spiced sausage roasted with cider) and Tortilla de Patatas (Classic Spanish omelette).

The Pan Con Tomate from the Catalonia region was one of my favourites, it is such a simple dish but it is bursting with flavour.  I highly recommend you try this dish if you visit.

Pan Con Tomate

Chorizo A La Sidra from Asturias was packed with flavour and a real hit with my other half. The spiced Asturian sausage was roasted to perfection in cider and it tasted lovely.

Choriza a la sidra

Tortilla de Patatas from Navarre is a simple classic Spanish style omelette made of eggs, potatoes and onions with an alioli dip on the side.

Southern Spain

The South menu has Calamares A La Andaluza (Squid strips tossed in flour, deep-fried and served with a lemon slice and Alioli), Pan de la Casa (toasted bread topped with garlic & tomato sauce and Serrano Ham) and Patatas Bravas (Roasted potatoes with spicy tomato sauce and Alioli).

Calamares A La Andalza from Andalucia is strips of squid lightly battered and served with a fresh lemon wedge to season and an alioli dip.

Patatas Bravas from Madrid were seriously moreish, these crisp roasted potatoes were topped with spicy tomato sauce and Alioli, these are my favourite tapas dish.

Pan de la Casa also from Madrid was toasted bread with a garlic and tomato sauce topping and Serrano ham.

So which menu did I think was the best, the Northern Spain menu or the Southern Spain?

After sampling both menus I am definitely on team North as I loved all three dishes from the menu. My other half preferred the Southern Spain menu, so I think that who wins will be neck and neck and I am looking forward to seeing which menu comes out on top.

I highly recommend you visit Tapas Revolution to try out the North vs South menu's for yourself, they are amazing value at just £9.95 each and it is a great way to try new dishes.

The Northern Spain vs Southern Spain Tapas Taster menus are only running for the summer so be quick and try them out while you can. Full details can be found at www.tapasrevolution.com

Which menu do you think should win, North or South?

  5. I love food in general but I'm not a fan of tapas! I love Italian tapas but Spanish tapas don't do it for me. My husband loves them though!
