Ox Pasture Hall A Luxury Country House Hotel In North Yorkshire - Review

AD

We have just returned from the most lovely night away at the beautiful four star Ox Pasture Hall Hotel near Scarborough and I am already longing to return.

On Sunday we set off for are very first child free night together in almost three years! What better way to have a very long overdue night away together than at a Luxury hotel in Scarborough Yorkshire  which is only around 2 hours away from Newcastle, making it the perfect destination for a mini break.

Entrance to Ox Pasture Hall Hotel Scarborough

We arrived in Scarborough a couple of hours before check in to the hotel so we headed down the tramway to the beach for fish & chips from Harry Ramsdon's, it has to be done when you are at the coast right? Followed by a lovely walk along the bustling seafront, I could not believe how busy the seaside town was and it was such a wonderful laid back atmosphere.

I felt like I was relieving my childhood being back in Scarborough visiting the arcades playing on the 2p machines, eating ice cream whilst strolling along the beach and watching all the children enjoying rides on the donkeys and the small fun fair on the beach. It really was such a lovely way to spend a few hours.

Just under three miles from the bustling seaside town of Scarborough it feels like you are transported to a different world as you drive into the wonderful Yorkshire countryside and discover Ox Pasture Hall Country House Hotel.

Ox Pasture Hall is situated in the most idyllic setting of 17 acres of lush green countryside in the North Yorkshire Moors national park.

As we entered the cosy reception area of the privately owned boutique hotel we were warmly greeted and instantly made to feel at home as we were booked in for dinner and shown to the room. The room was actually a suite which was located across the beautiful wisteria courtyard's and away from the main hotel building, the courtyards and grounds were so charming and extremely well maintained.

The suite for the night was the Ilkley (all rooms are named after places in Yorkshire) which was huge. Decorated in a lovely cream colour scheme with thick carpets and solid oak furniture throughout and lots of little decorative accessories it had a really homely country feel to it.

With stunning views from the windows, the bedroom views were of fields and vast open green coutryside and the view from the lounge was of the lake at the back of the hotel and  views of the Yorkshire moors.

There was a lounge area with a large brown squishy leather sofa, a flat screen TV, desk and tea and coffee making facilities. The lounge area lead off to a open plan bedroom which was a good size and had a massive king sized bed along with a wardrobe, chest of drawes and a flat screen TV.

The bathroom had a deep filled waterfall bath, walk in shower and his and hers matching sinks and plenty of soft fluffy white bath towels.

The suite was immaculately clean and had everything that you would need for a stay including a safe, radio, iron and ironing board, fluffy bathrobes, complimentary toiletries and bottles of still and sparkling water. There was also information packs with information on local area in and helpful hotel details such as a room service menu and contact numbers.

The only thing the room did not have was wi-fi as it was so far away from the main hotel building, although free wifi was available in the main hotel building. To be honest it was nice to just switch off from social media for a day.

Ox Pasture Hall is a dog friendly hotel and it was lovely to see so many dogs around the hotel on walks with there owners or sitting under the tables in the bar, which really added to the country charm.

The bar area is so inviting with big comfortable sofas scattered with plump cushions, stone clad walls, wooden beamed ceilings and a cosy fireplace.

When dining at Ox Pasture Hall you can either dine in the more relaxed bistro which is located in the bar area and serves more tradition gastro pub style food, or you can chose to dine in the Courtyard restaurant which is the only restaurant in Scarborough to have been awarded 2 rosettes for culinary excellence. We decided to dine in the Courtyard restaurant placing are order whilst sitting enjoying a drink in the bar before being shown to a table in the courtyard restaurant.

Sitting near the window we had lovely views of the beautiful courtyards and were offered a complimentary bottle of wine with are meal, the staff done a wonderful job of selecting a wine that complimented are meals wonderfully. The table was lit with candles and had a selection of breads with butters for us to enjoy.

We did not have to wait long for are starters to arrive, now I hold my hands up and admit I am really fussy when it comes to food and don't like trying new things so I played it safe and ordered the mushroom starter, but there was more interesting dishes such as pigs head on the menu.

My starter did not look very appetising as it was mushroom mouse with croutons, it was seriously tasty though. He ordered the Salmon, caviar and asparagus starter which came beautiful presented and he says was the nicest thing he has ever tasted, which is saying something as we eat out a lot!

For mains I opted for the Yorkshire beef with seaweed and onion, this was cooked perfectly and the meat melted in my mouth, the flavours worked so well together and it was truly delicious.

He chose the Gressingham Duck cooked medium rare with celeriac, Chinese mushrooms and beetroot.

For dessert, he opted for the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and I opted for the peanut butter and banana dessert. The banana ice cream that came with mine was the nicest ice cream I have ever tasted.

With full tummies, we headed back to our suite for the evening where we enjoyed a very comfortable nights sleep. We woke up feeling refreshed and well rested and made our way back to the courtyard restaurant for breakfast where we were quickly showing to a table and offered tea or coffee and toast by the friendly attentive staff.

There is a buffet selection of fruit juices, assorted cereals, fruit, yoghurts and pastries on offer but we both decided to order the full Yorkshire breakfast which was cooked to order. The breakfast came well presented with lovely thick slices of bacon and juicy pork sausages.

We had such a lovely time, the setting is beautiful, the hotel is comfortable, cosy, clean and charming, the staff are very friendly and so welcoming and the food is outstanding - making the perfect combination for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
