Did you know that there is a dog cafe in Newcastle? Dog and Scone located right in the city centre is the cutest little cafe with the most adorable resident dogs. You can enjoy a drink and a snack in this cosy little cafe whilst getting to know the eight resident dogs who are all super cute and friendly.
Dog and Scone is located in Pudding Chare which is just off the Bigg Market and not far from central station. It is recommend that you book in advance as it is very popular and often gets fully booked, as there is only twelve people per session which last for an hour.
On arrival you wait outside until the start of the session, once inside you are asked to remove your shoes and are showing to a table in the cafe. Then the dogs come out to play!
There are eight dogs (all girls) Pepper the pug- who is just a cheeky puppy, Momo the toy poodle (who looks very much like my two dogs), Pickle the Pekingese, Yuki the Teacup Yorkie (she was our favourite), Shadow the Chihuahua, Sugar and Teddy the Pomeranians, and Noodle the Dachshund.
All of the dogs are small and super friendly. The cafe is set up with table and chairs around the outside and then beanbags, toys, little dog sofas etc in the middle for the dogs to play and chill out in. You are told not to pick up the dogs and just let them come to you, my daughter was over the moon that Yuki came to her and climbed up on her knee for cuddles.
Dog and Scone is a cafe so it serves hot and cold drinks, sweet treats, toasties and of course scones. I ordered a latte (£3.30), my daughter had a chocolate milkshake (£3.50) and toastie (£4.50), prices were reasonable. There is a sink so you can wash your hands before eating / after touching the dogs, there is also a customer toilet available.
Near the end of the session you get giving some treats to give to the dogs and some of them will even do tricks for a treat - staff show you what each dog can do. The dogs are really well looked after, there was lots of space for them, they had lots of toys and enrichment toys to play with, they could take themselves off to a quiet area if they didn't want to socialise and some of them were happy to just curl up on a beanbag and sleep. Staff are on hand at all times to ensure the dogs are safe and happy.
They even have a stand selling merch featuring the dogs from the cafe. Keyrings, pens, socks, tote bags, stickers and blankets are all available to buy featuring your favourite Dog and Scone dog. My daughter got some keychains and pens featuring Yuki and Momo as they were her favourite and they only cost a few pounds each.
We really enjoyed visiting Dog and Scone, it was such a lovely experience. We do actually have two Poochon dogs (toy poodle crossed with a Bichon) at home but it was still nice to visit and spend time with the Dog and Scone pooches. My daughter is desperate to return again soon.
