Sunday Lunch At The Tall Ships Hartlepool

 AD

On Sunday we headed down to The Tall Ships in Hartlepool to try out the Sunday lunch menu. The Tall Ships is a Ember Inns pub and was about a 40 minute drive down the A19 from Newcastle. Being a chain type pub I was pleasantly surprised just how good our lunch was, read on to find out more.

The Tall Ships

We had a booking for 2pm on a Sunday, free onsite parking was available (you do need to register your car reg on a machine when you enter). The Tall Ships was busy when we arrived with people waiting to be served at the bar and plenty of people enjoying drinks and lunch. We were welcomed by the bar staff quickly and drink orders were taking before being shown to a table.

Tall Ships Sunday Roast Dinner

They have a dedicated Sunday menu with roast dinners on but they also serve some classic pub dishes such as fish and chips, lasagne, salads and grill dishes. One of my children is autistic and only eats very plain foods so they were happy to see fish and chips on the menu which they requested without the peas and tarter sauce.

They also offer children roast dinners as well as starters and puddings and you can add a selected starter or dessert onto your roast for only £2.50 extra. The rest of us ordered a roast and dessert each.

You order your food at the bar and the three staff working on the day we visited were so lovely and friendly. They went out of their way to accommodate my daughters allergy, they checked the ingredients in everything and her meal was brought out separately.

The Food

Being a chain pub my expectations were not high but I was very impressed with the roast dinners we received. The presentation was good, the meat was really tender and the vegetables were all cooked perfectly, the gravy was plentiful and tasted really good. The yorkshire pudding was frozen but everything else tasted really fresh and was well prepared.

We opted for three different roasts, I got the turkey (£12,99), my daughter got the gammon (£11.49) and my dad got the beef rib (£13.99). We also ordered three sides for £6.49 - two mash and a cauliflower cheese.

All of the Sunday roasts came with the most delicious baby roast potatoes, mixed greens, braised red cabbage, roast carrots, a mini jug of gravy and a yorkshire pudding  to accompany the meat. The turkey and gammon dinners also came with a delicious stuffing ball wrapped in bacon.

As previously mentioned we also ordered a fish and chips this was described on the menu as a 'posh fish and chips' priced at £12.99. This was two battered sea bass fillets served with chips and it would usually come with mushy peas and tartare sauce but we had requested it without. My daughter really enjoyed this but only managed to eat one of the fish as the portion was generous. She really enjoyed the sea bass and said it was very tasty.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the meals and were regretting ordering desserts as we were really full. We ordered the sticky toffee pudding which came with icecream, a biscoff sundae, a eaton mess sundae and a cheesecake. All were delicious and a great way to end such a lovely meal.

What We Thought

We were really impressed with the Tall Ships Hartlepool, I am not just saying that as we were invited for a meal either. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome, the staff were really friendly and helpful and not just to us we noticed them being just as good with other customers. The pub had a cosy and relaxed vibe and there was plenty of people from couples to families and friends enjoying lunch and drinks.

Service was absolutely spot on, they were so accommodating of food preferences and allergies. The food was delicious, the roasts were so good and I would definitley recommend them and would return for one next time we are in the area.
