Riverford Recipe Box Review

As a mum, I always try to cook fresh home cooked meals for my family, however, I have found that I tend to stick to the same few meals on rotation and it gets a bit boring after a while. So when I was recently asked if I would like to try out a Riverford recipe box I thought this would be the ideal opportunity to try out some new recipes.

Riverford recipe boxes are made up of local, fresh organic produce and they are made up with everything that you need to create tasty meals at home. They offer a range of boxes such as vegetarian and meat-eating boxes for two or three recipes with a range of boxes such as an original box or ones for under 500 calories or quick cooking times if you want something healthy or speedy. They also offer a good range of fruit, vegetable, salad and meat boxes too for you to enjoy at home.

Ordering a box is really easy as you simply visit the website click on the week you would like your box ordered for - they deliver weekly and see what recipe boxes you like the sound of. The thing I really liked is that they list what meals will be in each box so you can ensure you order a box that will be to your personal taste. You also have the option to add some extras onto your order such as fresh eggs etc if you wish.

I decided to go for the quick three meal box that serves two, I wanted something that was quick and easy to cook but that sounded yummy and this sounded ideal for us. The box that I ordered consisted of all of the ingredients to make Teriyaki Steamed beef, Chicken noodles with Cornish sea salt and Vegetable fajitas. The box costs £39.95 and includes free delivery, you will be notified when your box will be delivered and you can leave instructions of a safe place to leave your box if you won't be home.

When the recipe box arrived it was well packed in a large cardboard box everything was packaged well and the small items and spices were in little compartments making it easy to see what went with each dish. Everything was clearly labelled and they had a clearly labelled cold bag with the items that needed to go in the fridge, you could instantly tell that all of the vegetables were really fresh and of a high quality. You also receive really easy to follow recipe cards in the box to help you make the recipes yourself.

I tried the Teriyaki steamed beef dish first of all and I found following the instructions and creating the dish so quick and simple. I had never steamed beef in the oven before but it tasted delicious and was bursting with flavour. The portion sizes were generous and there was more than enough to serve two people. You could tell that all of the ingredients were really fresh and I enjoyed cooking something new in such a fuss-free way with everything already measured out and included in the recipe box.

The other two recipes that we tried were again really quick and easy to make, the instructions on all the recipe cards were super simple to follow. The vegetable fajitas were a big hit with the children as they love fajitas, especially my teen and we found we had more than enough to share the meal with them too.

The chicken noddles with Cornish sea salt was a lovely warming dish perfect for a quick warming evening meal now the nights are getting cooler.

So what did I think of the Riverford recipe box that we received?

I really liked it, I love the concept behind recipe boxes as they have everything that you need to create a new recipe so you don't have to go out and spend a fortune on different ingredients that will end up just sitting at the back of your cupboard. They are great for trying new dishes at home and they are so convenient as everything is already measured out for you, all you have to do is follow the instructions to create a tasty meal.

The variety of meals that we received was really good too and I really enjoyed trying dishes such as the chicken noddles that I had never tried before. Every item that we received was of a very high standard and the vegetables and meat were really fresh, I liked knowing that it was all local produce too as we do like shopping locally. Ordering was super easy and I really liked that you get free delivery and are kept informed of delivery times. Another lovely touch is that Gwen the local veg lady who runs Riverford organic Newcastle keeps in touch with you and sends you an email notifying you of when your box will be delivered and after delivery to see if you want your box collected, as each box is recyclable and can be reused. Unfortunately, I could not send mine back to be reused as our cat jumped in it and made a  bed for himself.

I really enjoyed trying out Riverford and I am sure that we will be ordering from them again in the future as I really like the sounds of the veg boxes they offer too. You can see the full range of boxes that they sell on their website www.riverford.co.uk

Have you tried Riverford recipe or vegetable boxes before?

Disclosure I received a complimentary Riverford recipe box for the purpose of this review, however, all opinions are my own.
