Yo Sushi With Kids

 AD

This summer kids eat for free at Yo Sushi so we went along to see what dining at Yo Sushi with kids was like. We visited the Metrocentre branch but here in the north east we also have a branch in Newcastle city centre on Grainger Street too which I visited all the way back in 2017

I am sure you are all familiar with the Yo Sushi concept that food goes around on the conveyor belt and you can pick dishes from the belt to enjoy. Each plate is colour coded and different plates are different prices - prices range from £2.95 - £8.50 per plate depending on what you select. You can pick as many plates as you like and at the end they add all the plates up and you pay for what you have had.

It is fun but I will be honest I thought dining with kids at Yo Sushi would be super expensive - as my kids would have grabbed a lot of dishes off the belt to try. However kids can get their own bento box for just £7.50 which includes the choice of chicken katsu, chicken teriyaki, prawn katsu, chicken gyoza or pumpkin katsu served with rice, a choice of sauce, 6 maki sushi rolls, edamame and a drink. The meals are suitable for children 12 and under (mine are 10 and 8 years old) and they were a good size meal.

Kids Eat Free Offer

This summer from 10th July until the 1st September 2023 kids eat free all day Monday - Friday in Yo Sushi restaurants when dining with a full-paying adult who spends £10 or more. Kids under 12 will get a kids bento box meal worth £7.50. Please note a maximum of three children per booking can eat for free and one child eats for free per £10 spent on food by an accompanying adult and can not be used with any other offer. Please check Yo Sushi website for full t&c's.

The bento boxes were a good size and were really healthy, yet delicious for children to enjoy. They looked fun and had a good selection of food for children to try out.

Sushi

We did try a good selection of sushi dishes from the belt too when we visited as my children adore sushi. My 10 year old daughter polished off two plates of salmon maki (£3.95 per plate) and also tried some salmon nigiri (£4.50). The Hoisin duck rolls pictured below (£5.25) were my favourite closely followed by the classic California rolls (£4.50) and my 8 year old son tried the spicy chicken katsu rolls (£4.50). All of them tasted fresh and delicious.

As well as sushi from the belt Yo Sushi also have a range of dishes that you can order from your table and get made freshly and sent directly to your table. They have dishes such as bigger sharing sushi platters, poke bowls and street food dishes. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with steamed rice (£11.25) and my older daughter got the Chicken Katsu Curry and steamed rice (£8.25). Both dishes arrived quickly and were piping hot and delicious but very filling - I almost regretted eating two plates of sushi beforehand as I struggled to finish my main.

Yo Sushi With Kids

So what was it like dining at Yo Sushi with kids? My 8 and 10 year olds loved it! They loved the novelty of being able to get some dishes from the belt to try and they liked the bento boxes and how they got to try different foods. They have previously ate with chopsticks so they managed fine eating sushi and the food from the bento boxes with chopsticks and thought it was good fun.

Yes I probably did let them order a bit too much food as they got four plates of sushi off the belt between them that they couldn't finish and realistically the bento box would have been more than enough for them. However the staff kindly give them a box so they could take the spare sushi home (there was a lot). The bill came to just over seventy pounds including drinks for two adults and two children. However we could have easily spent a lot less.

Would I recommend a visit to Yo Sushi with children? Yes I would I think the kids eat free deal is a great offer and is a good way to try Yo Sushi with kids, it is fun, tasty and healthy food for children. I will definitely be returning with my own children in the future.
