Beach Box Jesmond Family Beach Camp

 AD - Invited

Are you looking for something fun to do with the children this weekend? Well read on to see what we thought of Beach Box Jesmond. Beach Box is located in Jesmond, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, there is free onsite parking or it is just a short walk away from Haymarket in Newcastle city centre. It is a place to go for food and drinks during the summer and is popular with couples and groups of friends, however on a weekend they run a family Beach Camp which is great for a family outing.

What Is Beach Camp?

Beach camp is a children's event that runs on Saturday and Sunday mornings at Beach Box during the summer, it runs from 10am-12pm. It costs £5 per child to attend which includes a fruit shoot drink on arrival, entertainment, games, character meet and greets, colouring, balloons and certificates. You only pay for the children attending, adults go free. Every day the characters are different, when we visited it was Encanto, they also have Elsa, Spidey, Rapunzel, Captain America and Ariel to name just a few of the characters attending - full details of who will be on can be found on the Beach Box website and social media channels.

On arrival you check in at the arrival desk, children are handed a fruit shoot and are given a name badge then you go and find a seat near the stage. There is colouring, a big sandpit filled with buckets and spades, film's playing on the giant screen and tons of photo opportunities to keep children entertained.

The entertainment is run by Lets Party Events North East, the staff were friendly and took the time to go around all the children and ask their names and get them involved. There was dancing, games such as musical statues, balloon dancing and stories. At the end all children get a photo opportunity with the character and are giving a certificate and some sweets.

Food and Drink

Beach Box has a range of different street-food traders however as the Beach camp is on during a morning there is only the Holy Hobo open for food. They have a adults breakfast menu which we ordered from and thought was good value for money and very tasty. We got the American pancake stack (£6.95), the sausage and egg stottie (£5.95) and a side of mini hash browns (£3.95).

The breakfast was delicious, the mini hash browns were amazing - highly recommend if you visit!

The bar is open for drinks and served hot and cold drinks, we got a coffee and a coke and the staff were really friendly. Towards the end of the session we ordered the children lunch from the children's menu which they really enjoyed and was brilliant value at £6.95 for three courses. Starter was dough balls with vegetable sticks and garlic mayo. There was a choice of four mains, Sophia got the burger with fries and Jacob got the chicken kebab with salad and flatbread. The other options were fish or a vegan burger. Dessert was a ice lolly. Both my children really enjoyed their meals and the portion sizes were decent.

What is Beach Box Like?

Beach Box is a outdoor venue, although some areas do have an overhead shelter. It has long tables and benches and a stage area which are covered then lots of outdoor seating and giant beanbags to relax on. There is a big sandpit, dart boards, pool tables and tons of fun photo opportunities - everywhere you look there is fun props dotted around.

Most of the street-food stalls, bars, toilets etc are in big metal shipping containers and it is a chilled, fun, holiday type vibe.

Dogs are welcome, although we didn't bring our two with us there was other dogs there. It is flat and there was people in wheelchairs and lots of pushchairs when we visited.

What did we think?

My children are aged 7 and 9 years old, so they are probably at the older end of the children who were there as most seemed to be 3-5 years old. However there was children older than mine enjoying it and also babies joining in too. My 9 year old daughter Sophia really enjoyed it as she is a big Encanto fan and she loved the dancing, music and games. My 7 year old son, Jacob enjoyed it and loved the food and venue but obviously didn't enjoy the character experience as much as his sister did.

It was a fun event as the staff tried to get the children involved and even if they didn't want to join in with the dancing and games there was other things to do. The big sand pit was popular with lots of children playing with the buckets and spades, there was also some children just watching the giant screen which was playing cartoons. Also I think older children visiting with younger siblings would enjoy the endless photo opportunities and the vibe of the place.

Overall we had a really nice time, it was something different and my children enjoyed it. It was fun, the venue was great and the food and drink were good value and really tasty. My children have asked to go back as they enjoyed it that much and my husband is dying to return to try out the street food vendors. If your looking for something fun and affordable to do with the kids this weekend then I would recommend a visit to Beach Box, Jesmond, Beach Camp.

Details of what characters will be on, Beach Camp dates and booking information can be found on the Beach Box website as pre-booking is advised.

Beach Box invited us to attend this event free of charge and provided us with complimentary food and drink during our visit.
