Somewhere I have been meaning to visit for such a long time is Turknaz in Whitley Bay, so many of our family and friends had recommended this award-winning restaurant to us over the years and we finally got round to visiting recently.
Located on North Parade right by the seafront in Whitley Bay you will find Turknaz restaurant. It is just a short walk from Whitley Bay town centre and there is a couple of car parks located just a few minutes walk away. We visited on a Saturday evening and had prebooked a table online the day before and I am glad we did as it was busy when we visited.
We were greeted and showing to our table and giving menus and drink orders taking quickly. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri (£8.50) it did take a long time to arrive but it was probably one of the nicest daiquiris I have had. My husband got a pint of Efes Turkish beer (£5) which arrived super quick.
Food
They have a range of hot or cold Mezzes for starters, I ordered the Hellim (£7.50) which was cooked perfectly and well presented with a side salad. It was so delicious I would definitely get it again and recommend it.
My husband got the Mitti Kofte (£6.95) which was lamb meatballs in a tomato sauce, he really enjoyed these.
We were also given a complimentary bread basket which my husband used to mop up the tomato sauce on his meatballs.
Onto mains and I went for the Chicken Shish (£17.95), marinated chicken breast skewers cooked on the charcoal. This came with rice, salad and a yummy chilli dip.
My husband got the Turknaz mixed grill (£23.95) marinated lamb, chicken, adana and lamb cutlets. This also came with rice, salad and chilli dip.
Both meals were beautifully presented and cooked well. We also ordered a potion of chips but we didn't need too and didn't eat many as the meals were so filling with the rice and salad.
We had to try the baklava (£5.95) for dessert which came with ice-cream and was delicious.
What We Thought
We both really enjoyed our meal at Turknaz, the food was delicious and well presented. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere with groups celebrating birthdays, families, couples and groups of friends. Service was a little bit slow at times but it was a Saturday evening and there was some big groups in when we visited so was to be expected.
Our total bill for the evening for two starters, two mains, a portion of chips, one dessert, a beer and cocktail was £82.70 which I thought was reasonable for what we had. I would definitely return as we had a nice time and enjoyed the food.
