We Got Married

After two years of planning, we finally got married! If you follow me on social media you have probably already seen some photos of the day, there is going to be a whole lot of wedding spam over the coming weeks. I honestly don't know where to begin telling you all about the big day as it was just perfect, we were blessed with wonderful weather as it was the hottest day of the year so far, although the whole day just went by so very fast.

We got married last Saturday on the 29th of June, which would have been my late mam's birthday. I chose that day as a way to remember her on my special day and so she was a part of my wedding day because getting married without your mam is bloody hard and rather emotional if I am honest. When we got engaged we knew we wanted a summer wedding and when I saw her birthday was on a Saturday we knew that was the day we wanted and luckily the venue had that day free.

We got married at Backworth Hall in  North Tyneside, which is a bit of a hidden gem as I have lived in the North East my whole life and had no idea it was there until we started looking for venues. The day was just lush and the sun was shining and we could make use of the grounds and the venue looked amazing thanks to our venue dresser.

I got ready at my dad's house on the morning of the wedding as it is where I grew up, I was really calm the whole morning with no nerves at all which is unlike me as I am normally the most anxious person going. The ceremony was just a blur as it went by so fast and it is true what they say you forget everyone else in the room and don't notice people when you're walking down the aisle, I just remember telling my dad off for keep standing on my dress.

We booked the most amazing photographer to capture our day Paul Flanningan photography, he is so canny and was brilliant with the kids and putting us all at ease I 100% recommend him if anyone in the North East is looking for a photographer. I can't wait to get the professionals photos back so we can relive the day - as it went so fast we can't remember bits of it.

I cried at my dad's speech as he mentioned my Mam and I never cry in public but so many of us were in floods of tears as we missed her and wished more than anything that she could have been there to celebrate with us.

We had 46 guests to the day time, just close family and friends and it was nice as it meant we could have a quick chat with everyone. We had a much bigger night time celebrations with over 100 guests which was lovely but we didn't get a chance to talk to everyone. I know I keep saying it but I just could not believe how quickly the day went, we got married at 1pm and before I knew it, it was 11pm and the night was coming to an end.

We have been married just over a week now and it still feels a bit surreal, I am not used to having a different surname or being a Mrs and saying I have a husband just feels bizarre. It is also really strange seeing Lee with a wedding ring on his finger. We were both completely exhausted for days after the wedding too which we did not expect at all.

I am so glad that we are married now and it was worth all the money and time we spent organising the big day. Being married feels right for us and while having children together was definitely a bigger commitment then marriage it feels good to be married. I don't feel any different and it hasn't changed anything but it was nice to make that commitment to each other and to celebrate with all of our family and friends. I love that the children were old enough to be a part of our special day and old enough to remember it too as they loved it and it was a proper family celebration.

I will be writing some more posts about our wedding over the coming weeks, as we used some brilliant suppliers and I would recommend all of them to anyone. I just wanted to write a quick update to let you all know we got married after me going on about it allllll of the time lately and that the day was everything we wished for and more.

First two photos are from our photographer Paul Flannigan, rest of  the photos are from our guests.
