Family Fun With Caledonian Travel

We were invited on a Family Fun weekend break with Caledonian Travel and we had the best weekend! We did the Cadbury and the Safari break and it was the most stress free weekend trip ever as everything was taking care of for us.

The trip included coach travel with reserved seating throughout, admission to Cadbury World, overnight accommodation at the Holiday Inn Express including evening meal and breakfast plus admission to West Midlands Safari Park - including a safari drive through experience.  

Butlins Skegness Review

 

A couple of weeks ago we headed to Butlins in Skegness for the ESF football tournament weekend with my son's football team. So what was it like? Well let me tell you. 

Getting There

We live just north of Newcastle and it took us about four hours to drive to Butlins Skegness,  with a short toilet stop for the kids on the way. You can also get the train but it requires three changes, Newcastle to Newark Northgate, Newark Northgate to Grantham then Grantham to Skegness and it takes 3 and a half hours, so a similar amount of time to driving. A quick look on Trainline has a family of four return at £150-£200 with a railcard. 

Discovering The Harry Potter Package At Macdonald Linden Hall

My 6-year-old daughter discovered the magic of Harry Potter earlier this year and she had been desperate to visit Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry ever since. So when an invite landed in my inbox (sadly not via owl post) to try out the new Harry Potter Package at Macdonald Linden Hall country house hotel in Northumberland, it was the perfect opportunity to make my very own little Gryffindors wish come true. 

Macdonald Linden Hall is a country house hotel, golf course and spa nestled in the beautiful Northumberland countryside - about 30 minutes north of Newcastle. Setting off on Friday afternoon after school we were soon pulling up outside the impressive 18th-century manor house set in 450 acres of private grounds and with plenty of free on-site parking. Checking in was super quick and easy and we were warmly greeted by the very friendly receptionist who really made the children feel welcome.

A Family Staycation With Jurys Inn

Last week we had a family staycation, here in Newcastle at the Jurys Inn hotel in the city centre. Staying in a hotel in the city we live in is something that I had never thought about doing before. However, since staying in a hotel in my home city I can see why people do it as it is a great way to explore places you may not often visit and it is fun to be a tourist in your own city. 

The Jurys Inn hotel is a great base to explore Newcastle, it is just a few minutes walk from the train station and very close to the arena, the nightlife and the city centre shops. There were a few groups of friends staying at the hotel but there was also other families and couples staying too and we had a very peaceful stay, despite staying on a Saturday night in August. 

Haven Berwick Northumberland Review

Back in May, we went on a little mini-break to Haven Berwick caravan site in Northumberland, about an hour away from Newcastle. We booked about six weeks in advance on the Haven website and for a four-night mid-week break in an upgraded three bedroom deluxe caravan, it was only around £160 for the five of us. 

Ox Pasture Hall A Luxury Country House Hotel In North Yorkshire - Review

We have just returned from the most lovely night away at the beautiful four star Ox Pasture Hall Hotel near Scarborough and I am already longing to return. 

On Sunday we set off for are very first child free night together in almost three years! What better way to have a very long overdue night away together than at a Luxury hotel in Scarborough Yorkshire  which is only around 2 hours away from Newcastle, making it the perfect destination for a mini break.
