Haven Berwick Northumberland Review

Back in May, we went on a little mini-break to Haven Berwick caravan site in Northumberland, about an hour away from Newcastle. We booked about six weeks in advance on the Haven website and for a four-night mid-week break in an upgraded three bedroom deluxe caravan, it was only around £160 for the five of us.

Getting to Berwick is really easy you just follow the A1 and there is also a bus and train station just a ten-minute walk from the site. As we had a Deluxe caravan we could check in from 3pm, checking in was really quick and straightforward.

The caravan was spotlessly clean when we arrived and really spacious, it had a double bedroom, two twin bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and toilet, a separate toilet, fully stocked kitchen area and a large lounge / dining area with TV. All of the beds were made up on arrival and it was in a nice quiet area, it was a five-minute stroll to the entertainment complex and you could see the sea from the lounge area.

We were soon off exploring the site and heading to the onsite Spar shop to stock up on some essentials for our stay. I always expect onsite shops to be really expensive but it was not the case at all, everything was around the same price as my local Spar shop and it was really handy for stocking up on milk and juice. It also had a gift shop at the back selling a range of Haven products and seaside essentials like buckets and spades and fishing nets.

They also have an onsite pottery painting store, the onsite entertainment complex which has a fish and chip shop, amusements, Briggs of tweed bar / restaurant, show bar, indoor and outdoor pool and small play park and sports area.

The site is really well maintained too with little wooden sculptures dotted around and well-maintained lawns and flower beds. It really is a very family friendly caravan site. The thing I really liked about this caravan site is the location, it is right on the beach - although be warned you have to go down some very steep steps to get there.

It is also just a ten-minute walk into the historic market town of Berwick which is such a lovely place to visit, it is also close to Seahouses and Holy Island and not too far from Scotland and Edinburgh. It really is the ideal location for exploring the local area.

On our first night we ordered a takeaway from Just eat and we just had to meet them at the gate. We also visited the onsite fish & chip shop another night but I found this really expensive with very small portions and it was not very nice. We also ate out in Berwick one night and we visited the onsite Briggs of Tweed another night which was typical pub food but it was good value and we also visited for breakfast.

We spent our day times going swimming in the mornings in the indoor pool which the children adored, it was just a small pool with a deep end, children end and a slide but it was ideal for young children.

Each afternoon we would go for an explore either to the beach, into Berwick or following the castle walls and coast to the local play park. Every evening we would head to the amusement where the children had great fun playing in the arcades on the 2p machines.

We visited the show bar in the evening for the mini disco and to meet the Seaside Squad.

Haven Berwick rory and greedy

Haven holidays are perfect for young children like mine, there was lots of activities for them to enjoy, evening entertainment and parks to play in.

Before we went I was a little unsure if I would like a caravan holiday like this however it was a really nice, friendly site and I would go back one day.

  2. Ah we used to love our Haven holidays and really liked the one at Berwick! I've got an almost identical picture of the one overlooking the beach - gorgeous! Not sure if we had fish and chips there but we definitely had a Papa Johns pizza - love them! We always went on the Sun £9.50 offers - you'd save yourself a fortune!

    1. The beach huts look like they belong somewhere more exotic then a caravan park in the North don't they x
