A Family Staycation With Jurys Inn

Last week we had a family staycation, here in Newcastle at the Jurys Inn hotel in the city centre. Staying in a hotel in the city we live in is something that I had never thought about doing before as we live just a fifteen-minute drive from Newcastle city centre. However, since staying in a hotel in my home city I can see why people do it as it is a great way to explore places you may not often visit and it is fun to be a tourist in your own city.

The Jurys Inn hotel is a great base to explore Newcastle, it is just a few minutes walk from the train station and very close to the Metro radio arena, the nightlife and the city centre shops. When we were first invited to stay at the hotel as a family I was a bit worried that the hotel would be full of hen and stag parties as it is located so close to the train station and bars such as Power House and Boulevard. There were a few groups of friends staying at the hotel but there was also other families and couples staying too and we had a very peaceful stay, despite staying on a Saturday night in August.

Arriving at the hotel around 4pm on Saturday afternoon we were checked in quickly and made our way to our rooms. As we were a family of five we were given interconnecting rooms, which was a big bonus. The children slept in one room which had a double and single bed and we slept in the other room with a double bed. Having interconnecting rooms was great as it give us so much space and meant even when the children went to bed early we could still stay awake watching tv in the separate bedroom whilst still keeping an eye on the children.

Both rooms were really clean and comfortable, they had TVs with Freeview, plenty of storage and seating and were nicely decorated. The en-suite bathrooms could have done with an update as they were a bit dated but they were clean and fine for an overnight stay. We were on the sixth floor and it was really quiet, we also had a view of the trains coming in over the river Tyne, my children loved watching the trains coming into the station.

As we were staying in Newcastle we decided to explore and eat out as we never explore and always head to the same places. It was nice to just take our time walking around without having to rush off somewhere. We visited the nearby Discovery Museum before checking into the hotel which the children really enjoyed and is free entry, you could also visit the nearby Centre of Life which is somewhere else my children also enjoy visiting. The hotel is also ideally situated for staying when you see a show at the arena as it is only a few minutes walk away.

We decided to eat out in the evening as there are so many great places to eat in Newcastle, however, if you prefer to stay in or have tired children after a day of exploring then there was a vast room service menu available to order from.

After a busy day, we all snuggled up in the extremely comfy Dreams bed to watch films on the TV with some snacks, which was a lovely way to end the day. Plus there is free fast wi-fi much to my teen's delight. We all slept well as the beds were so comfortable and had the softest and super snuggly duvets on the beds, I want a one for home!

Having young children means we were up at the crack of dawn, as usual, luckily breakfast was served from 8am. Breakfast is served buffet style in the downstairs restaurant and was quiet with just a few other guests when we arrived. It served up tradition hotel buffet breakfast foods such as fresh fruit, a range of cereals, pastries, toast, crumpets and cooked breakfast items. There was plenty of choice and a good drink selection with hot and cold drinks available.

I really liked that check-out was not until 12, meaning you could have a lazy morning in your room if you wished. As it was a Sunday morning we decided to check-out early and headed to the Quayside market to stock up on some treats and have a wander with the children before heading home as we had a party to attend in the afternoon, otherwise we would have stayed out for the day.

We had a nice stay at Jurys Inn, the children especially enjoyed it and thought it was a treat as they love staying in hotels. If you are planning a visit to Newcastle or are seeing a show at the arena and don't fancy a late night drive home then a stay at Jurys Inn is ideal. We found the hotel really clean, the rooms (especially the beds) very comfortable and it was in the perfect location for a weekend in Newcastle. The interconnecting rooms were a big bonus for us as we often struggle to find hotel rooms big enough for a family of five and often have to split up and stay in different rooms.

Next time we plan a family night or two away somewhere I will definitely be keeping Jurys Inn in mind as we all enjoyed our stay. Family rooms with breakfast cost from around £89 per night which I think is very reasonable.
