A Festive Meal At Trenchers Spanish City Whitley Bay

 AD - Invited

Are you looking for a nice festive meal out with family, friends or work colleagues that is not a traditional Christmas lunch? If so I have found the perfect place for you, Trenchers at Spanish City in Whitley Bay. They have a festive menu priced at £23.00 for two courses or £28.00 for three courses. I was kindly invited along to try it out with my dad last week, read on to find out what we thought.

Spanish City Festive Menu

I love Trenchers at Spanish City, I have visited previously with the children for fish and chips which you can read about here. Spanish City is a beautiful venue right by the sea, it looked even more beautiful decorated for Christmas with an impressive tree (it was huge) taking centre stage.

We visited on a Friday lunch time and there was quiet a few groups of friends and families with young children enjoying lunch. The atmosphere was really relaxed and friendly and we were quickly showing to a table right near the Christmas tree.

We were here to review the festive menu but you can still order off the main menu if you wish. The festive menu has some great options on it starters include dishes such as mussels, ham hock and black pudding terrine, salmon, prawn cocktail and a goats cheese mouse. For mains there was a choice of fish (cod or haddock) and chips, burgers, pasta, fish pie or turkey escalope with brie and cranberry sauce and roasted vegetables. Onto desserts and there is a choice of Christmas pudding, trifle, cranberry and almond tart, milk chocolate torte or lemon cheesecake.

I ordered the prawn cocktail and it had nice juicy prawns in a lovely Marie-Rose dressing. My dad ordered the ham hock and black pudding terrine which came with a fine herb salad and mustard mayonnaise, he really enjoyed the terrine and polished the lot of.

Onto mains and my dad ordered the award winning fish and chips, he said the batter was really light and crispy and the tarter sauce it came with nice and tangy.

I was very tempted to also get fish and chips but decided to be festive and went for the turkey escalope with glazed brie, cranberry sauce and honey roasted vegetables - sprouts, carrots and parsnips. The flavours of the dish worked so well together and it was presented beautifully and rather filling.

boozy berry trifle

I was so full I almost didn't get a dessert but I couldn't resist the boozy berry trifle and I was so glad I got it as it was the perfect way to end the meal. My dad got the lemon baked cheesecake with fresh cream on the side.

The whole meal was delicious, the presentation was lovely and the quality of the food was really good for the price. The service was fab, really quick and attentive and it goes without saying that the venue was so beautiful.

I would definitely recommend a visit to Spanish City this December, they have a gorgeous looking festive afternoon tea available too in Valerie's Tearoom. A visit to try the festive menu at Spanish City would also be a great idea if you are heading to the nearby Playhouse to see this years pantomime Cinderealla as it is just a few minutes walk away.
