Since Sophia turned three a couple of months ago she has really started to develop her own interested, two things that she seems to adore are fairies (thanks to Tinkerbell) and gardening (thanks to pre-school). So when she seen an advert on TV for the My Fairy Garden range from Interplay she was mesmerised and kept asking for a one. We had planned to buy her a one to keep her occupied in the summer holidays, but luckily we were sent one to review.
As soon as the My Fairy Garden set arrived she knew what it was straight away and could not wait to get to work setting it up. Inside the box you will find everything that you will need to create a magical fairy garden. The set includes a bowl, fairy cottage, oyster shell, coloured gravel, grass seeds, fairy dust, flowers, clothes line and poles complete with pegs, giant mushroom, mouse, fairy and instruction booklet. The only thing that you need to add is some compost or soil from the garden.
Sophia loved filling her bowl up with compost with a little trowel, this is something that even young children can help with and enjoy. Next we had to build the fairy cottage, the cottage is made from foam and was a little fiddly to put together so I had to do this for her. We then placed the house on the soil and then created a colourful path with the coloured gravel provided. Sophia then got to work decorating her fairy garden with the washing pole, giant mushroom, oyster shell and flowers before sprinkling the grass seeds and fairy dust onto the soil.
We then had to put the fairy garden somewhere sunny and wait for the grass to grow, not forgetting to water it a little every few days. The box states it takes around 2 weeks for the grass to grow but we realised that it started to grow within a couple of days, it was quiet long after a week so we give it a little trim with some scissors.
Sophia loved creating this fairy garden, watering it and watching the grass grow. She also loves playing with the little fairy and mouse that the set comes with. I think that this would make such a wonderful gift idea as children as young as Sophia (3) and slightly older children will love this magical fairy garden, as it really does have a magical charm to it that children will love.
I really like the fact that even when you have created your fairy garden and grown your grass you can keep everything from the set and just create another fairy garden one day too. I am sure we will be creating another one next year as Sophia loves it so much.
