Welcome to another week of Other Bloggers Family Lives, this week I am featuring Emma from UK family lifestyle blog Emma and Family. Emma blogs about life as a young family, trying to conceive, her home and recipes.
So let's find out more about the family behind Emma and Family.
1.) Tell me a bit about yourself and your family?
I am a 24-year-old Psychology post-graduate with aspirations of becoming a clinical psychologist for children and adolescents, I am taking a career break whilst child rearing and now work part-time as a brain injury rehabilitation support worker.
My partner Fabio and I got together in 2013 during our 3rd year at university, having knowing each other since our 1st year. Within a year of our relationship, I was pregnant with our son Harrison. Harrison was born in November 2014, he is gorgeous (I know I am biased, but seriously this little boy is beautiful, he is half Portuguese and a dark and handsome thing with big brown eyes to match) and is a cheeky little mummy's boy. We also have a cat called Darcey, named after the ballerina Darcey Bussell, she is Harrisons begrudging best friend.
2.) Where do you live?
We live in Reigate, Surrey which is a small village just outside of the M25. It allows us to enjoy a certain aspect of country living but is only a 30-minute train journey into central London to enjoy the city buzz too.
3.) What is your favourite thing to do as a family where you live?
Our favourite thing to do where we live is to go for walks up in the Surrey hills, we are only a 5-minute drive from the Surrey Hills where they held cycling events at London 2012. It has stunning views across Surrey and also has charming woodland to explore. We tend to put Harrison up in a sling on my back for our family adventures, as he is getting older we are enjoying letting him explore on foot more.
4.) If you could live anywhere where would you?
If we could live anywhere we would probably live in my partner's home country Portugal for a slower, warmer pace of life. However, we are very close to my parent's, sister and grandmother and would never consider moving away from them as the relationship between them and my son is one of my main priorities in our family, having grown up extremely close to my own grandparents.
5.) Did you grow up close to where you live now and what are your favourite childhood memories of where you grew up?
I grew up about 25-minutes drive away from where I live now, where my parents and grandparents still live. It is just the right distance away of close to home and easy to get to but not so close they can pop round for tea uninvited! My favourite childhood memories of where I grew up are going out with my Grandad on our bikes and exploring local woodlands and countryside. My grandparents were pivotal in my upbringing as my mum was a single parent working full time so I spent a lot of my time at my grandparents.
6.) Have you got any exciting family plans for the year ahead?
We have lots of exciting family plans. We recently bought our first house after years of renting. We are starting with a new build blank canvas and we are excited to put our mark on our first home.
7.) What is your favourite thing about family life?
My favourite thing about family life is those simple moments that make you suddenly feel the rush of warmth and joy about how comfortable and cosy family life is. It's those moments when you are all sitting on the sofa watching a film together, or watching my partner and son lay on the floor playing together whilst I cook dinner. Those moments when you just take a moment to appreciate the simple moments that give you that warm feeling in your heart.
Emma no longer blogs.
