Planning On Taking The Dog On Holiday

AD

We have not had a family holiday this year, as we were busy saving for our wedding, the eldest was sitting her GCSEs and the other half has had no time off work. We are hoping to maybe getaway later in the year and have been looking at booking a little UK mini-break so we can spend some quality family time together and so we can bring the dog with us. As a family with pets, we class our pets as part of the family and I love the idea of taking the dog away with us (the cat obviously wouldn't be too keen).

Bob the dog has never been on holiday before as we normally holiday abroad, but I think he would really enjoy it and it would be an adventure for him and he would prefer it to being stuck in an unfamiliar Kennel. So I have been looking at UK staycations you can take your dog on and I was surprised at just how many options there were available, from caravan parks, camping, country cottages and even some city centre hotels offer dog-friendly accommodation for a small supplement. Taking your dog on holiday seems a lot more common and widely accepted then I first thought with so much choice available.

We always want what is best for our pets and taking your dog on holiday is just an extension of that. We would be able to ensure he was getting regular walks, that he was well looked after and had all of his familiar things with him such as his bed and toys and his grain free dog food that helps keep his tummy happy and coat shiny. We changed to grain free dog food recently to help improve Bob's health as it is more natural and higher in protein, and along with regular walks and regular health checks at the vets is keeping him in good health.

I think that taking him on holiday will be something that he (and we) really enjoy as he will get lots of attention without everyone being at work or school all day. If we visit the Northumberland or Yorkshire coast as planned then he will get long country walks running through fields and time at the beach splodging in the sea - which he really enjoys. It will also get us all outdoors more getting some exercise too enjoying family walks, which is something we rarely do at home.

Now we just have to find somewhere to head for our little staycation and keep our fingers tightly crossed for nice weather so we can get outdoors and enjoy our holiday. If you have taken your dog on holiday before and have any tips then be sure to let me know them in the comments below.

  3. We took our dog camping this year. He is very nervous around other people and dogs so it was hard work but it was great that he was outdoors all day. If he was a bit calmer I would consider taking him again but think he needed a quieter environment.
