Things I Loved September 2019

I love September, I think it stems back to the start of the school year as I always see September as a fresh start and a month for making positive changes to my life. I also really like autumn time, wrapping up in warm, cosy clothing and having lazy days at home with the heating on - it is definitely my favourite time of the year. September has been a pretty good month for us with lots of positive changes and some nice days out, and the return to a routine now the children are back at school after the summer break.

So here are some of the things that I have loved in September.

1.) Back To School

The children all returned to school at the start of the month and I think they were all ready for it, as the little two really enjoy school. They have gone into year one and year two and so far seem to be enjoying it, although Sophia is struggling a little she still enjoys going to school and Jacob is flourishing in year one.

The teen Chloe has started her new 6th form to study her A-Levels and she seems to have settled in and seems to be enjoying it. She is studying Geography, Sociology and Fine Art. She has gone to a different, bigger school and so far I think it has been the right choice for her as she has made new friends and gained some more independence.

2.) Peaky Blinders

I only just discovered Peaky Blinders for the first time this month and ended up binge-watching it from the start on Netflix and Sky. I had heard so many people mention how good it was but it never really appealed to me so I never watched it until recently. It took me a while to get into it but I now see why everyone recommends it so much.

3.) To Kill A Mockingbird

This month I re-read Harper Lees book To Kill a Mockingbird, I originally read this a long time ago back when I was in high school. It is one of those books that stay with you forever and it has been about ten years since I read it last and about 20 years since I first read it at school. If you haven't read it then you really should as it is one of those books that I think everyone should read.

4.) Linden Hall Stay

We were invited to review Linden Halls Harry Potter Package in September and it was a canny little weekend. The package included overnight stay, evening meal and breakfast at Linden Hall in Northumberland and the tickets to Alnwick castle for a family day out. The children had the best time as there was some Harry Potter treats for them at the hotel and they loved exploring the grounds and spotting squirrels. It was nice to have a family weekend together after a busy few weeks of settling back into the school routine.

5.) Alnwick Castle

As part of the Harry Potter Package at Linden Hall, we were given a family ticket to Alnwick Castle, which is where the first two Harry Potter films were filmed - it was part of Hogwarts. It has been a good few years since we last visited Alnwick Castle and the little two had never been before so it was lovely to re-visit with them. They had so much fun exploring the castle, taking part in broomstick training and meeting the castles dragon. I think we will have to re-visit with them next summer.

6.) Sandman Night Away

As part of our date night, we also booked a stay at the Sandman Signature Hotel in Newcastle - near St James Park stadium. I had a voucher for a night away from a blog collab back in the summer which we used to have a child-free night. It was nice - the ideal spot for a stay in the centre of Newcastle and handy after having a few cocktails.

7.) Turtle Bay

Myself and the other half had a rare date night at the end of the month, so we headed into Newcastle. It was pouring with rain so we headed to Turtle Bay near the Gate and enjoyed a yummy meal and some cocktails - well it would be rude not to enjoy the 2 for 1 cocktail's.  The food was yummy, although we overordered on the sides and were too stuffed to finish them all.

8.) Xmas Shopping

I am determined to be organised for Christmas this year - famous last words. So that we can enjoy the lead up to the big day without being stressed and running around doing last-minute shopping. So I have started Christmas shopping already, we have a few presents in so far and I am hoping that we will be all done by November, fingers crossed.

9.) Hockey

Jacob has been going to Hockey Heroes training sessions recently at Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Hockey Club, which he is really enjoying. We were invited to take part as part of a blog campaign with England Hockey and Tots100 but he actually really enjoys it and I can see him continuing with Hockey after his course finishes. Hockey Heroes is for children aged 5-8 and is a great introduction to Hockey for them and they have courses all over the country - I will be sharing a blog post soon about it all.

10.) Time Off Work

The other half had a week off work at the end of the month and it was lovely to have him off. He has not had any time off since the wedding back in June, so a break from work was much needed. We had a few nice days out and meals out and it was just nice to have him home to help with the school run and after school clubs.

So those are some of the things that I loved in September, it was a nice month for us with the return of routine, a few nice days out and some quality family time. October will hopefully be another lovely month as my biggest turns 17 and will be learning to drive, we have October half-term to look forward to, Sophia is starting swimming lessons, I return to studying for my degree (after a long break) and we have a few nice days out planned.

How was your September, did you do anything good?
