Destination 1850 At Newcastle Central Train Station - Review

Complimentary Review Meal.

Destination 1850 has recently opened in Newcastle's Central Station, train station and it is a great new place to eat. Now you might be wondering why I am writing about train station food as its normally fast food or sandwiches well Destination 1850 is different and has changed that preconception. Destination 1850 is from the people behind popular North East venues YOLO and STACK and is the ideal place to grab a bite to eat before or after a train journey - or even just lunch out if you're passing the area.

Located just inside the train station entrance you will find Destination 1850 inside the glass covering, beautifully decorated it is cosy and welcoming and even has heated seats to keep you warm. Serving a range of hot drinks, wines, soft drinks and cocktails it also has an impressive food menu - expect to see the likes of pizzas, wraps, salads, loaded fries and sharing boards as well as brunch on the menu.

I was looking forward to visiting last weekend, however, it was sadly not to be as both the little two and myself came down with a sickness bug. So I sent my 17-year-old daughter, her friend and my dad along to review Destination 1850 for me and this is what they thought.

Arriving at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon they were warmly greeted by the staff and quickly shown to a table and presented with menus. Despite being in the train station entrance it was not cold and they soon settled down to people watch over hot mugs of hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows (£2.75) and Lattes (£2.55) whilst waiting for food to arrive.

My teenager ordered the Mexican Beef Chilli Burrito (£7.00) which looked delicious and she really enjoyed. Beef chilli, zaatar-infused rice and cheddar cheese wrapped in a tortilla with sour cream, guacamole, red chillis and garnished with crispy tortilla strips.

My dad ordered the rather yummy looking Katsu Loaded Fries (£6.95) fries loaded with southern fried chicken topped with Katsu curry sauce, garnished with fresh chillies, spring onion and coriander. He commented that the portion was really generous and filling and very morish.

The others went for the Pri-Pri  Chicken Wrap (£6.50) filled with spicy Pri-Pri chicken, baby gem lettuce, red onion and with a side of pomegranate salad - perfect for cooling the spice of the Piri-Piri down.

Everyone was full from their mains, apart from the teen - does anyone else's kids always have room for pudding? She had spied the deliciously tempting looking cake counter and there was no way she was going to miss an opportunity to sample something from it. Ordering her all-time favourite carrot cake (£3.50) it was moist and packed full of fruit and nuts with a deliciously creamy frosting on top.

They spent an hour visiting Destination 1850 and commented on how lovely the two female members of staff were and that there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere inside. Service was quick, food was delicious and the prices were reasonable for being in a prime location such as a Train station. I think that Destination 1850 is great addition to Newcastle Central Station and I will definitely be visiting the next time we are heading somewhere on a train as the food looks and sounds proper lush. You can even get a takeaway if you don't want to sit in - ideal for enjoying on your journey.

Destination 1850 is open daily from 7am to midnight with food served 8am - 10pm.

You can find out more on their Facebook page

Disclosure We were kindly invited along to Destination 1850 and received complimentary food and drink in exchange for this review. However, all opinions are my own.
