Other Bloggers Family Lives Featuring Life As A Single Mum

Welcome to this week's Other Bloggers Family Lives, this week I am featuring Charlotte who blogs at Life As A Single Mum. Charlotte blogs about life as a single mum, raising her little boy and life in Brighton. So let's find out more about the family behind Life As A Single Mum.

blogger life as a single mum

1.) Tell me a bit about yourself and your family?

I'm Charlotte, a single mum to my son Etienne. I'm currently volunteering in a primary school one day a week and Etienne attends nursery part-time. I've been on my own with Etienne since early pregnancy and sadly his father chose not to meet him, but Etienne is an incredibly happy little soul and we have lots of fun together nonetheless!

2.) Where do you live?

We live in Brighton, we are a stone's throw away from the beach and we're central enough to have easy access to the town, parks, paddling pools and cafes etc.

3.) What is your favourite thing to do as a family where you live?

We love to be outdoors, come rain or shine you will find us outside exploring - it's what Etienne does best! I'd say our favourite thing to do is to take Etienne's scooter to the seafront, wander along the beach and grab an ice cream from the BEST ice cream place which is right on our doorstep.

4.) If you could live anywhere where would you?

To be honest, I love Brighton so much. It has got everything we could possibly need. We are right in the middle of everything here and I love the diverse, vibrancy of the city. It's a unique place with so much character, I think it'd be hard to beat living here. However, it's downfall is the property prices here. You get very little for your money when you buy here and if you're renting like us you will find the prices are extortionate. One thing I'd love is some outside space of our own so with that in mind, I wouldn't totally object to living somewhere like Cornwall where we get more for our money plus those stunning beaches surrounding us!

5.) Did you grow up close to where you live now and what are your favourite childhood memories of where you grew up?

Yes, I grew up in Brighton and have been here all my life. I guess that's why I'm so attached to this place. I have some great childhood memories of hunting for conkers with my dad in Stanmer park and taking my bike along the Undercliff at Rottingdean beach.

6.) Have you got any exciting family plans for the year ahead?

We're actually planning on spending some time down in Cornwall next year to get a feel of life down there. I'm hoping to get myself a degree of some sort but I'm still choosing a couple of courses. Everything is up in the air at the moment so I'm looking forward to having some solid plans in place for the next year.

7.) What is your favourite thing about family life?

Being on my own with Etienne is tough sometimes but I find it even more rewarding when he reaches a new milestone or does something lovely. I love feeling a sense of pride in knowing that my hard work is paying off. I also love the adventures we go on. Looking back, life seemed so dull before I had him! Now, every day is an adventure and no two days are the same.

Thank you so much taking the time to answer these questions Charlotte I loved reading your answers and could relate so much to them. I was a single mum too for many years with my eldest and know exactly how hard yet rewarding it can be being a single parent. The bond you and your son will have will be amazing when he is older and it sounds like you're doing a brilliant job raising him on your own. Good luck with your degree and getting plans in place for your future.

  1. Living so close to the beach must be amazing :) I've always lived in the midlands, so the furthest away from the sea!

  4. We recently moved and are close to the beach and I love that fact. I admire all single mums as I think they've got such a hard job without a partner but always do a fantastic job, certainly the ones I know!

  6. What a lovely post. It's great to see read about a Mum who is enjoying single parent life. It has lots of bonuses, like not having to compromise and trust your own instincts. It sounds like she is embracing the situation
