English Heritage Day's Out This Summer In The North East

This summer English Heritage have a host of summer events planned to keep the whole family entertained. They have everything from evening theatre shows under the stars to historic re-enactments and medieval falconry displays, they sound perfect for getting children interested in history. If you are stuck for something to do as the summer holiday's come to an end, check out what is on here in the North East at English Heritage centres this summer.

Tuesday the 15h - Wednesday 16th August - Fighting Knights at Warkworth Castle

Two highly trained knights will be taking to the arena in combat at Warkworth Castle in Northumberland. You can even meet the knights and find out more about them throughout the day. This event is from 11 am - 5 pm. 

Thursday 17 August - Tynemouth Priory Outdoor Theatre Show

You can watch Shakespear classic a Midsummers Night Dream live under the stars at Tynemouth Priory in North Tyneside, brought to you by Chapterhouse Theatre Company. Bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy this outdoor show surrounded by beautiful and historic surroundings. The show starts at 7.30 pm with doors opening at 6.45 pm. 

Saturday 19th - Sunday 20th August - Chesters Roman Fort

The Roman's return to Hadrians Wall for two days of military displays that will transport you back to Roman times as you take in the sights and smells of living in a Roman military campsite. This event is on 11 am - 5 pm. 

Saturday 19th - Sunday 20th August - Scarborough Castle 

Discover what Scarborough was like during the first and second world wars, experience the WW1 & WW2 zones with lots of interactive activities for children to take part in. Open 11am - 5pm. 

Sunday 20th August - Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens Outdoor Theatre Show

Rain or Shine theatre company will be performing Twelfth Night in this outdoor evening performance. Bring a blanket and picnic and enjoy the show under the stars. The show starts at 7 pm with doors opening at 6.15 pm. 

Tuesday 22nd August - Mont Grace Priory Outdoor Theatre Show

Chapterhouse theatre company will be performing Wind in the Willows in this magical family show with a woodland parade the audience can join in with, this show sounds perfect for families. Bring a picnic and blanket and enjoy this much-loved tale under the stars for an unforgettable evening. The show starts at 7 pm with doors opening at 6.45 pm. 

Thursday 24th August - Warkworth Castle Outdoor Theatre Show

Charterhouse theatre company present classic Pride and Prejudice which you can watch under the stars at historic Warkworth Castle. 

Friday 25th August - Lanecost Priory Outdoor Theatre Show

You can also enjoy classic show Pride and Prejudice performed by Chapterhouse theatre company at Lanecost priory as well as at Warkworth Castle. The show starts at 7.30 pm with doors opening at 6.45 pm. 

Saturday 26th August - Monday 29th August - Belsay Hall Knights Tournament 

Spend the bank holiday weekend at beautiful Belsay Hall, Castle and gardens in Northumberland and watch the medieval knights battle in archery and swordsmanship. Little ones can show off their bravery with Knight's battle drills out on the field whilst you take in the merry music. This event is open 11 am - 5 pm. 

Monday 28th August - Birdoswald Roman Fort How To Be A Roman Soldier

Have you got what it takes to be a Roman Soldier? Little soldiers can enrol in the army in the grounds of this ancient Roman fort and take part in hands on activities. Open 11 am - 5 pm. 

Wednesday 30th - Thursday 31st August - Warkworth Castle Medival Falconry

Witness spectacular Ariel displays of Birds of Prey and learn how they were used in Medieval times. You can also meet the medieval Lord Chamberlain and decide whether kings of the time were 'good, bad or sad' in an interactive family show. Open 11am - 5 pm.
