Jungle In My Pocket Playset Review

My little girl Sophia is four and she is at the age where she loves animals and really small toys to play with. So when we were recently asked if she would like to review the Jungle in my pocket Treehouse playset and blind bags I thought they sounded the perfect toys for her. Jungle in my Pocket is from the makers of Puppy and Kitty in my pocket, which my eldest used to love when she was younger.

Travel With Virgin Trains For Family Day's Out This Summer

This week schools up and down the country break up for the long awaited summer holidays. As a mum of three myself, I am so looking forward to spending extra time with my children, having fun and making memories. Obviously, the six week's holidays are long and children do get bored, so as a family we normally plan a few exciting days out. Last year we visited York several times by train which we found much more convenient and relaxing than travelling by car.

Travelling by train is exciting for children and is more relaxing for us adults too, there is no need to worry about getting lost or finding a parking space. When travelling with young children, like we do I also find it much more convenient to travel via train as they have toilets on board and refreshment trolleys - so no more constant service station stops.

Meeting Mister Maker At Mister Maker & The Shapes Live - Whitley Bay Playhouse

Yesterday we were invited to see Mister Maker live at the Whitley Bay Playhouse in North Tyneside, not far from where we live. We really like the Playhouse as it spacious and modern and located near the seafront in Whitley Bay, we reviewed the Aladdin pantomime there last year. We had a brilliant time at the Mister Maker live show and much to my children's delight we got to meet Mister Maker himself, he is so nice and friendly in real life.

Designing A Dream Pet With Petplan

My four-year-old daughter Sophia is a huge animal lover, she loves to visit farms and zoos and thinks every animal is cute, especially the smaller animals. Ever since she visited a farm at Easter and got to pet a mouse she has been desperate for a one of her own and asks every day if she can get one. As we have a pet cat, Marmalade, I don't think getting a pet mouse is a very good idea right now.

This doesn't stop Sophia dreaming about her much wanted pet mouse though, she has picked a name for her dream mouse, Minnie - obviously! And as Sophia is only four she truly believes that she can get a purple and pink mouse (her favourite colours) and that it will be her very best friend.

Clean & Fresh Laundry With New Persil Powergems

Like most Mum's laundry in my house is never-ending. I must spend hours each week sorting, washing, drying, ironing and putting away clothing, bedding and towels. As a family of five, the washing machine is on multiple times per day as I have the girl's school uniforms to wash, the other half's work uniforms, so many white washes, dark washes and coloured washes - as we have two messy pre-schoolers and a teen. I also wash towels, bedding, tea towels, football strips and swim wear. The list is never ending.

So when I was asked to try out the revolutionary new Persil Powergems that helps get rid of stains, care for your laundry and leaves it smelling fresh I was intrigued. As a family we have always used Persil laundry detergent, my parents used it when I was a child and when I had my own children I carried on using it, as it is gentle on my daughter's sensitive skin. Persil is a brand that I have grown up with, used for many years and trust so I was keen to see how the new Powergems compared to my usual Persil non-bio powder.

Dieting As A Mum

I have never been slim, I have always been a bit overweight and I have been on and off diets non-stop for most of my adult life. However, since having my son almost three years ago I have become so unhappy with my weight and I am finding it so hard to lose weight. I seem to be in some kind of vicious circle of losing weight and then I decide to 'treat' myself for losing weight by having a Chinese take away and before you know I have a 'treat day' of a bar of chocolate, four bags of crisps and a Mcdonald's and by the end of the week I have gained all the weight I had lost in the first place.

Regular readers will know I have joined Slimming World at least four times in the last two years, and while the plan does work I never stick to it. This got me thinking that trying to lose weight when you're a  mum is hard work and here are my reasons why.

Saving Money On Holiday Clothes Shopping

My eldest daughter is off on holiday to Portugal in a few weeks with her grandad, I am so jealous as I have always wanted to visit Portugal myself. Obviously, as she is going abroad she needs a whole new summer wardrobe as it has been three years since she was last abroad, and living in Newcastle it is rarely warm enough to be wearing shorts and summer clothing.

June 2017

Nania Imax Group 1, 2 and 3 Car Seat From Kiddies Kingdom - Review

My little boy Jacob will be three in a couple of months but as he is so big for his age he is starting to look a bit squashed in his current car seat - which is meant to last until he is four. So when Kiddies Kingdom online baby store recently got in touch to see if we would like to review a new car seat it was perfect timing. We were sent the Nania Imax group 1, 2 and 3 car seat Agora Carmin, in red (it does come in different colours) and Jacob loves it.

A Day Out With Thomas At Stephenson Railway Museum

My little boy Jacob is Thomas the tank engine crazy, he has Thomas bedding, toys, pyjamas and train sets. So when I heard that Stephenson railway museum in North Tyneside was holding a day out with Thomas event a few weeks ago I just knew that I had to take him. I bought a family ticket for two adults and two children for £35 and we kept the day out a surprise from Jacob.

Puppy Surprise Review

One of the things that I love the most about being a parent is introducing my children to things that I too loved as a child. There really is no better feeling than reliving your childhood with your own children, one way that I do this with my own children is through toys. So many of my favourite childhood toys are still around now twenty odd years later!

Puppy surprise review

So when my 4-year-old daughter Sophia was recently asked if she would like to review a Puppy Surprise dog I jumped at the chance, as I loved Puppy Surprise when I was a child. These day's Puppy Surprise is a lot cooler than she was when I was a child, she is now brighter, more colourful and very cute!

Thing's I Loved June 2017

It feels like I have not blogged in such a long time, this month has been so busy that I just have not had the time to blog.  I have not sat down and written a post in weeks and I now have some serious catching up to do and so many emails to reply too. To get me back into the swing of blogging again I thought that I would write about some of the thing's that I have loved from the month gone by.

What Career Path Would Suit Your Cat? #WhiskasCareerDay

If your cat had a career what would it be? This was a question I was recently asked by Whiskas, after thinking of what our family cat Marmalade's personality is like I decided that his perfect job would be a security guard. Marmalade is seven years old now, so I guess you could class him as middle aged in cat years. He is my eldest daughter Chloe's cat and we have had him since he was a tiny little kitten, so we have seen his personality grow and know exactly what he is like as he is an indoor cat who likes to make his presence known.

Turtle Bay Newcastle Review

Last year Turtle Bay opened in Newcastle, in the old Co-op building outside the Gate complex and I have been meaning to visit for ages, I have heard so many great things about the food and cocktails. Last Thursday I eventually got around to visiting and we were greeted by the super friendly manager Steve and shown to a table which instantly made us feel welcome. Turtle Bay has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with reggae music in the background and a Jamaican look about it, groups of friends, couples and families were relaxing enjoying drinks or meals together.

A Wacky Warehouse Birthday Party

A couple of week's ago, my middle child, Sophia turned four years old! To celebrate her birthday she had a party at our local Wacky Warehouse soft play which is at the Wheatsheaf pub near Newcastle airport, about 15 minutes away from where we live. We had never actually been to this Wacky Warehouse branch before so had no idea what to expect, so read on to see what we thought.

May 2017

May seem's to have passed by in a flash, I am not sure if it was because of the two bank holidays or because we have been super busy lately. I know I say this every single month but I can not believe how fast the year is whizzing by and that it is now June! May was a really nice month and we actually managed a full month with no illnesses. Sophia turned four, we went on a little holiday and we have had lots of day's out in the sunshine. We have so many lovely things planned for June too, so let's have a look at what May was like for us.

Choosing A New Family Car

The last few years have seen so many changes for our family, we had two children very close in age which meant that I had back to back maternity leave, and I ended up leaving my full-time job to become a stay at home mum. The other half completely changed his job and has spent the last few years working his way back up the career ladder in a totally different sector, resulting in a huge drop in our disposable income. Add into that the fact we recently moved into a bigger, family home which needs a lot of work done to it has meant that things like holiday's and new cars have been at the bottom of our list of priorities.

SMA®PRO Toddler Milk

Advertorial Feature.

My youngest son Jacob is two years old and I have to say that these precious, short toddler years are amazing. Every day I love seeing the world through his eyes, watching him grow and learn new things whilst discovering the world around him, every day is an adventure and he sees the good in everyone and everything. His zest for life is infectious, although, like most toddlers he can be loud, energetic and likes to wake at 5.30 am every single morning, he is a little bundle of energy always on the go.

Disney On Ice Presents Passport To Adventure

Ever since I was a little girl I have been a huge Disney fan, I remember going to the cinema with my Mam to see The Little Mermaid film back in 1989, I enjoyed it so much that it is still my favourite film all of these years later. Not long after the film was released I was lucky enough to go on holiday to Disneyland Florida and I vividly remember that all of the floats in the parade were Little Mermaid themed. Ariel was on a float with Prince Eric and Flounder and they even had a rather large and scary looking Ursula float.

Noddy Toyland Detective App Review

Noddy is a TV show that my children love, my eldest used to watch it when she was younger and now my younger two children enjoy watching it on Channel 5's Milkshake in the morning. So when we were asked to try out the Noddy Toyland Detective app I knew this would be something they would enjoy. My little two are aged 2 and just turned 4, so they are the perfect age for playing with children's apps and I have started downloading a few on my phone to keep them occupied when we are eating out or on long car journeys.

We started the month with a little UK mini break, Sophia turned four and had her party, we had a few nice family meals out and we have spent lots of time outdoors enjoying the nice weather. New Furniture Plans

When we moved house last year from a small two-bed terrace into a large three-bed semi, not only did we have a lot more space but we also realised we needed new furniture for the new house too. So far we have only brought a new bed for our 4-year-old, furniture wise. We have been concentrating on getting everywhere decorated and new blinds and curtains before we replace the furniture. Now that the rooms are starting to slowly take shape I have been thinking about what I want to buy for the house.

We don't really need a lot for the upstairs of the house just some new wardrobes and storage for the children's rooms which we will get when we redecorate their bedroom later in the year. Downstairs I want everything new though. I really want new sofas as the ones we have are not really my taste, we were kindly given them a few years ago as our old leather one was looking a bit tatty. I am trying to wait a few years until my children are a bit bigger before replacing them though as I don't want sticky finger prints everywhere.

Sophia You Are Four

Dear Sophia

Today you are four years old and I thought I would write you a letter just like I did on your first, second and third birthdays. This year you have been through some big changes which you have taken in your stride and you have also changed so much over the last year too. You make us laugh every single day and you are so sweet and caring which melts my heart, you are also very stubborn and you still have your wild streak - which I hope you never lose.

A Little Home Update

Late last year we moved home into a 1950's semi-detached house, which will hopefully be our forever family home. However, as our new house is fairly old it does need a lot of work done to it to make it how we want, we have so many plans and want to hopefully add an extension and loft conversion in the future. For now, though we are just making the house more 'us' decorating the rooms one by one and getting new furniture and accessories.

Dacia Magic Weekend 2017

Newcastle has just hosted it's third Dacia Magic weekend and we were lucky enough to be invited along to experience it as a family. The Dacia Magic weekend is a two-day rugby super league event held at Newcastle United St Jame's park stadium, right in the city centre of Newcastle. Three matches are held on each of the days and it is a great way for rugby league fans or total rugby novices like me to experience different matches.

Teen Talk With Gabby Logan & Her Daughter Lois

Being a mum to a teen is tricky, it really is and being mam to a 14-year-old teenage daughter myself I know first hand what it is actually like. Every day is a learning curve. Boots and P&G understand this too which is why they are back for the second year with their #TeenTalk campaign along with trusted brands such as Tampax, Venus and Always. This year they have teamed up with TV presenter Gabby Logan and her 12-year-old daughter Lois to help give parents the confidence to have the dreaded #TeenTalk with their own children.

Smyths Toy Superstore Family Party Day

Next weekend is a bank holiday weekend and I don't know about you but I sometimes struggle thinking of ways to keep my children occupied on the long weekends. When the weather is nice we like heading to the beach or the park but we all know the great British weather is very unpredictable, we even had hailstones here in Newcastle earlier on today - in the middle of May! However, Smyths Toys Superstore is hosting free family parties at UK stores next Saturday the 27th May from 9 am to 2 pm.

My Thought's On 13 Reason's Why As A Parent To A Teen Girl

I am sure everyone has heard about Netflix's must see series 13 Reasons Why by now, it has been all over social media for weeks. I was pretty slow to watch it as I am not a big TV watcher and I also did not really want to watch a show about suicide. Then whilst checking my teenage daughters mobile I noticed on her Instagram account she had a link to an anonymous messaging app, where other people she knows can leave anonymous feedback about her, as did all of her friend's profiles. The first few messages were fine and just said things like "great friend, pretty, always there for me", just standard teenage girl messages to one another. Then I seen messages like "Do a Hannah Baker, go kill yourself."

Memorable Experience Ideas For The Whole Family This Fathers Day

Collaborative post

On Fathers day, we can often feel stumped by the overwhelming amount of possibilities on offer. From picnics in the park to go-karting, making the right choice for this special day is vital. This can be achieved ensuring all family members involved can get the most out of the occasion. If you're planning on spending the day with three generations of the family and multiples fathers on the scene, then take the time to consider the varying ages and suitability of activities. For example, an 80-year-old dad will usually have completely different tastes to young children or accompanying mothers when it comes to choosing how they'd prefer to spend the afternoon. It is for this reason a compromise must be struck between all parties involved.

A couple of weeks ago I was invited along to the YO! Sushi Newcastle new menu launch, as we have been away on holiday this post is a bit late, but better late than never. I love sushi but I have never actually been to YO! Sushi before, I have walked past the Grainger street branch in Newcastle so many times since it opened and we always say we will have to try it someday. Celebrate Star Wars Month With Hallmark

I am sure everyone has heard of May the 4th being Star Wars day, but May is also Star Wars month. Now I hold my hands up and openly admit that I am not a fan of Star Wars, I have never watched a single film and have no idea who any of the characters are. However, my other half is a massive Star Wars fan and I think my two-year-old son is going to be a huge fan too. So when we were offered a bundle of Star Wars products from Hallmark to celebrate Star Wars month I had to say yes for them.

Planning The Children's Bedroom Makeovers

We moved home just before Christmas and whilst we love our new family home and think that it will be our forever home we do have a lot of redecorating to do to make the house more 'us'. At the moment everywhere is decorated rather old fashioned with thick white patterned wallpaper in all of the rooms, and whilst it will do for now we do want to redecorate the whole house over the next year. One room that I am really looking forward to decorating is my children's bedrooms.

My youngest two children actually share a room at the moment as they are so close in age we thought it was best for them to share the largest bedroom in the house. As they are a boy and a girl I need to keep the room unisex and suitable for both of them, I also want a room that will grow with them for the next few years until we can extend our home and create a fourth bedroom.

April 2017

Today is the first of May, how fast has this year zoomed past? It really does not seem very long since I wrote last month's post, I know I sound like such a cliche saying this but time really does go so fast when you have children. My littlest lady will be turning four this month and we have so much planned that it is set to be a busy month for us. Anyway, lets take a look back at what April was like for us as a family and also blog-wise.

Thing's I Have Loved - April 2017

April is almost over and it has been such a busy month for us as a family, we have made some lovely memories and we are all enjoying being outdoors now the weather is getting warmer. I can not believe that it is May tomorrow, May is always a busy month for us as it is Sophia's birthday and she will be turning four in a matter of weeks. As today is the last day of April I thought that I would record some of the things that I have loved from the month gone by, I suppose you could call it my monthly happy list.

Being A Bad Blogger & Changing Direction

I have only just realised that I have now been blogging for three years, even though I have been blogging for such a long time now I still feel like such a novice blogger with so much still to learn. When I started this blog back in March 2014 it was to record my pregnancy with my now 2-year-old and days out with my girls. It was something to do while I was bored on back to back maternity leave - my children were born so close together I did not have time to return to work before starting my next lot of maternity leave. I had no idea what I was doing but I loved just writing for me as no one actually read my posts, which in hindsight is good as my blog looked horrific back then!

Beamish - A Brilliant Day Out For The Whole Family

Whenever anyone asks me where to visit in the North East my number one recommendation is always Beamish. It is such a unique and wonderful place to visit that the whole family will enjoy, everyone from babies and young children to adults and elderly relatives will have such a lovely time. I remember visiting Beamish as a child myself and now I visit with my own family, no matter how many times I have visited I always see and discover something new, there really is so much to see.

Disney Beauty And The Beast Belle Dolls From Hasbro

Beauty and the Beast is one of my most favourite Disney films, I remember going to see it at the cinema with my mum when I was a little girl and it has always remained a firm favourite of mine. My three-year-old daughter Sophia also adores Beauty and the Beast and watches it all of the time. I was so excited when I heard that they were bringing out a new version of the filming starring Emma Watson and I dragged my teen along to the cinema when it came out. I loved the new film and now I can not wait for it to come out on DVD, seriously if you haven't seen it you really must as it is amazing.
