Halloween Events In And Around Newcastle For Families

I have just booked my youngest two children tickets to a Halloween party in our village and now that they are 3 and 4 I think that they are at the age where they will get into the spirit of Halloween. I have been looking at events in or around Newcastle that are on for families this Halloween and thought I would share them in case you are still looking for some ideas. I have also included an event for teens and one for adults too.

Getting The Garden Ready For Winter Time

We have been in our forever family home for almost a year now and the last year seem's to have flown over. Everyone keeps asking us if we are all settled in our home and while we are all so happy here and it has felt like 'home' within days of moving we still have so much to do to make it 'us'. We have decorating to do, the garden to sort out and believe it or not we still have boxes to unpack!

Now that all of my children are at school and nursery school and I actually have some child-free time I have decided that it is time to tackle the house and garden in the lead-up to Christmas. I am having a huge de-clutter this week to bring a bit more organisation to our home and next week when the other half has a week off work we are planning on sorting our gardens out.

Yvolution Y Glider Refresh Deluxe Child Scooter Review

My little boy recently turned 3-years-old and like most children his age he loves being outdoors and playing on ride on's and scooters. So when we were recently sent a Yvolution Y Glider Refresh Deluxe Scooter to review he could not wait to have a scoot about on it.

The Y Glider scooter is for children aged 3 + and can be used both indoors and outdoors and is perfect for helping little ones develop balance and coordination skills. They are perfect for first-time scooter riders as they have 'lean to steer' steering which helps little ones learn how to steer. You can also change the steering from loose to firm as children develop.

Getting The Lounge Cosy For Winter

Now that it is September and my children have returned to / started school and nursery I have decided that it is now time to get our house in order. We moved last November and we still have so much to do decoration wise and one room that I really want to make a start on is the lounge. We have a lounge/dining room in one which is fairly big but at the moment it is my least favourite room in the house and I want to change that.

August 2017

August was a lovely month for us, it is always one of my favorite months as I get the whole month with my children at home. It is always a really laid-back, lazy month a bit like July but with no school runs and routine and it is also my little boys birthday month. We had a quite August so let's have a look at what we got up to.

FurReal Chatty Charlie The Barkin Beagle Review

My children are at the age (4 & 3) where they adore all kind of animals and are fascinated with them, they have recently been asking for a pet dog but I am a bit scared of dogs (I am terrified of them after being bitten as a child). So they were utterly delighted when they were recently sent a FurReal Chatty Charlie The Barkin Beagle dog to review, which is a very cute, interactive beagle puppy dog toy.

Where Is Best To Shop For Wine?

As you all know I am getting married and we have been looking at ways to save money on our big day, one thing we have been thinking of is buying wine online to save money rather than ending up with a huge drinks bill. Buying wine online is great, you can get an enormous variety of wines delivered straight to your front door, all without having to leave the comfort of your home. However, it can be difficult to know what sites are the best for buying wine.

Which companies offer the best value for money, and which have the best delivery services? Should you buy from a supermarket like Asda or Aldi, or from a dedicated wine retailer such as Naked Wine?

These were the questions asked by members of, and the site responded by creating an annual awards competition to reveal which retailers are the best for buying wine. The surveys were sent out in the Spring of 2017 to members of the site, and now the results are in.

Shuffle & Giggle Tiddlytubbies Review

This year iconic children's TV show the Teletubbies celebrate their 20th anniversary! It is safe to say the show is still as popular now as it was back then. My eldest daughter used to adore the show almost 15 years ago and my younger two children enjoy the show now, it is so nice seeing my youngest enjoy something my eldest loved as it brings back lovely memories. The biggest change to the show over the years has been the introduction of the rather cute Tiddlytubbies back in 2015, these cute baby Teletubbies are big hits with tots.

Tapas Revolution Northern Spain vs Southern Spain Summer Menu Review

Earlier in the year, I was lucky enough to be invited to the pre-launch of Tapas Revolution Newcastle, which opened a few months ago in Eldon Squares Grey Quater. At the opening I was impressed with how welcoming the staff were, the decor and the delicious food and I have been meaning to revisit with my other half as he is a huge fan of Spanish food. On Thursday I was very kindly invited back to Tapas Revolution to try out the new Northern Spain vs Southern Spain tapas taster menu.

It was lovely to revisit the restaurant after the launch and even though we visited at 2 pm on a weekday it was still bustling with couples enjoying meals, friends sharing a drink and even families sharing tapas together.

The Northern Spain vs Southern Spain taster tapas menu is amazing value at just £9.95 each for three tapas from the either the North or South of Spain. The two menus are being pitted against each other during the summer with customers voting for their favourite. Each of the menus has three set dishes on them and we tried out both menus to see which we thought was the best.

Things I Loved In August

I can not believe it is the end of August and soon the summer holiday's will be over and my children will be off to actual school. The little two are off to reception and nursery school and my teen will be starting year 10! August has been another month full of highs and lows for us, but I don't let like to dwell on the negatives so here is a look at some of the things that I have loved from the month gone by.

Surviving The Summer Holidays With Berocca

We are now on week 5 of the summer holidays and I don't know about you but I have been feeling pretty exhausted from having all three of my children home and having to keep them entertained. My little boy likes to wake me up at 5.30 am, every single morning - thanks, son! My partner is often at work so it is up to me to entertain a just turned 3-year-old, 4-year-old and 14 year old on my own, as well as all the normal chores such as cooking and housework and I was certainly starting to feel a bit lacking in energy.

For the first few weeks of the holidays, I was surviving on vats of sugary coffee and sugary treats to try and perk me up and get through the day. This just resulted in me hitting a bit of a mid afternoon slump most afternoons, it is also not great for my pre-wedding diet either. So last week I made a bit of an effort to get back to eating healthy and I also started taking Berocca each morning with my breakfast.

Wedding Planning

Back in June I got engaged and we have decided to get married in June 2019, giving us two years to save and plan for our big day. When we first started thinking about the wedding we really wanted to get married abroad, on a beach somewhere like Mexico with close family. However, we realised that not everyone we wanted to be there would be able to afford to travel so far, which put a stop to our plans.

July 2017

It is almost the end of August but I realised that I have not written my monthly update on the month gone by, I may be super late in writing about July - but better late than never and all that. It feels like forever since I wrote about what I got up to in June. July was a funny month, it was full of highs and lows and lots of time at home, as the new house has been gobbling up all of our money at the moment (again).

Planning A Home Office

I have been blogging now for three years and I will be honest and say that it has been challenging, as I have been bringing up my three young children in that time too. My blog has very much been a hobby all of these years, which I have been lucky enough to earn a small income from. However, thing's are about to change soon as my daughter is off to school and my son is off to nursery school, meaning for the first time since I started this blog I will have proper childfree time to dedicate to it.

75 Places To Visit With Teens In The North East

Being a mum to a teenage daughter I know just how hard it can be finding days out that interest them, long gone are the days where they are happy with a couple of hours at soft-play or playing in the garden. So I have compiled a list of places here in the North East that sound perfect for keeping teen's entertained this summer.

Peppa Pig Family Home Toy Review

My little boy Jacob is Peppa Pig crazy, he adores the show and would watch it all day long if he could. Whenever he see's anything with the Peppa Pig characters on he gets super excited as he points them out. Peppa has been a favourite in our house for a long time now as my eldest daughter (who is now 14) adored Peppa when she was younger too and had many of the toys and playsets - about ten years ago.

Join Us For A Mickey And The Roadster Racers & Minnie Happy Helpers Twitter Party #MickeyandMinnieToys

My two and four-year-olds are huge Disney Junior fans, it is their go to TV channel and they have long been fans of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. When Mickey and the Roadster Racers show came out earlier this year they were instantly hooked and became big fans of the show, watching it regularly. So when we were recently sent a huge bundle of Mickey and the Roadster Racers and Minnie's Happy Helpers toys from Flair they were overjoyed and could not believe their luck!

Snow Queen Lottie Doll Review & Giveaway

My four-year-old daughter Sophia is such a girly girl who adores playing with dolls, so when we were asked if we would like to review Lottie dolls I knew they would be perfect for her. Lottie dolls are different to other dolls in that they are designed to look like children and not adults, they have the body shape of a regular 9-year-old, they wear no makeup, jewellery or heels and look like normal children who stand on their own two feet. I love this as I am all for keeping my children innocent for as long as possible and I am not a fan of unrealistic tiny waisted, big boobed play dolls.

Thing's I Loved July 2017

Every month I write a post of things that I have loved from the month gone by, a happy list to look back on. Last month was an amazing month for us, this month less so as we have had some rather big unexpected bills and broken appliances to deal with. However, we still had some nice moments in July so here is a look at some of the thing's I have been loving from the month gone by.

A Little Tiger Picture Book Party

Anyone who knows me will know that I am a huge bookworm, I adore reading and have loved nothing more than getting lost in a good book since I was a child. I remember my imagination growing with each bedtime story I read, I was always keen to discover new books and the adventures within them. Now I am a parent I love reading stories to my own children, watching them be amazed by books and seeing their little imaginations growing with each tale is amazing to watch. I really hope they grow to love books and reading just as much as I do.

My little girl Sophia is four and she is at the age where she loves animals and really small toys to play with. So when we were recently asked if she would like to review the Jungle in my pocket Treehouse playset and blind bags I thought they sounded the perfect toys for her. Travel With Virgin Trains For Family Day's Out This Summer

This week schools up and down the country break up for the long awaited summer holidays. As a mum of three myself, I am so looking forward to spending extra time with my children, having fun and making memories. Obviously, the six week's holidays are long and children do get bored, so as a family we normally plan a few exciting days out. Last year we visited York several times by train which we found much more convenient and relaxing than travelling by car.

Travelling by train is exciting for children and is more relaxing for us adults too, there is no need to worry about getting lost or finding a parking space. When travelling with young children, like we do I also find it much more convenient to travel via train as they have toilets on board and refreshment trolleys - so no more constant service station stops.

Meeting Mister Maker At Mister Maker & The Shapes Live - Whitley Bay Playhouse

Yesterday we were invited to see Mister Maker live at the Whitley Bay Playhouse in North Tyneside, not far from where we live. We really like the Playhouse as it spacious and modern and located near the seafront in Whitley Bay, we reviewed the Aladdin pantomime there last year. We had a brilliant time at the Mister Maker live show and much to my children's delight we got to meet Mister Maker himself, he is so nice and friendly in real life.

Designing A Dream Pet With Petplan

My four-year-old daughter Sophia is a huge animal lover, she loves to visit farms and zoos and thinks every animal is cute, especially the smaller animals. Ever since she visited a farm at Easter and got to pet a mouse she has been desperate for a one of her own and asks every day if she can get one. As we have a pet cat, Marmalade, I don't think getting a pet mouse is a very good idea right now.

This doesn't stop Sophia dreaming about her much wanted pet mouse though, she has picked a name for her dream mouse, Minnie - obviously! And as Sophia is only four she truly believes that she can get a purple and pink mouse (her favourite colours) and that it will be her very best friend.

Clean & Fresh Laundry With New Persil Powergems

Like most Mum's laundry in my house is never-ending. I must spend hours each week sorting, washing, drying, ironing and putting away clothing, bedding and towels. As a family of five, the washing machine is on multiple times per day as I have the girl's school uniforms to wash, the other half's work uniforms, so many white washes, dark washes and coloured washes - as we have two messy pre-schoolers and a teen. I also wash towels, bedding, tea towels, football strips and swim wear. The list is never ending.

So when I was asked to try out the revolutionary new Persil Powergems that helps get rid of stains, care for your laundry and leaves it smelling fresh I was intrigued. As a family we have always used Persil laundry detergent, my parents used it when I was a child and when I had my own children I carried on using it, as it is gentle on my daughter's sensitive skin. Persil is a brand that I have grown up with, used for many years and trust so I was keen to see how the new Powergems compared to my usual Persil non-bio powder.

Dieting As A Mum

I have never been slim, I have always been a bit overweight and I have been on and off diets non-stop for most of my adult life. However, since having my son almost three years ago I have become so unhappy with my weight and I am finding it so hard to lose weight. I seem to be in some kind of vicious circle of losing weight and then I decide to 'treat' myself for losing weight by having a Chinese take away and before you know I have a 'treat day' of a bar of chocolate, four bags of crisps and a Mcdonald's and by the end of the week I have gained all the weight I had lost in the first place.

Regular readers will know I have joined Slimming World at least four times in the last two years, and while the plan does work I never stick to it. This got me thinking that trying to lose weight when you're a  mum is hard work and here are my reasons why.

BRIO Police Station Review

My little boy Jacob will be three at the end of next month and he is really starting to show an interest in the toys he likes and make up little role play games. He is really into emergency services like policemen and firemen, he has a toy fire station and engine but he does not have any police toys. So when we were recently sent a BRIO police station set he could not wait to start playing.

Saving Money On Holiday Clothes Shopping

My eldest daughter is off on holiday to Portugal in a few weeks with her grandad, I am so jealous as I have always wanted to visit Portugal myself. Obviously, as she is going abroad she needs a whole new summer wardrobe as it has been three years since she was last abroad, and living in Newcastle it is rarely warm enough to be wearing shorts and summer clothing.

Nania Imax Group 1, 2 and 3 Car Seat From Kiddies Kingdom - Review

My little boy Jacob will be three in a couple of months but as he is so big for his age he is starting to look a bit squashed in his current car seat - which is meant to last until he is four. So when Kiddies Kingdom online baby store recently got in touch to see if we would like to review a new car seat it was perfect timing. We were sent the Nania Imax group 1, 2 and 3 car seat Agora Carmin, in red (it does come in different colours) and Jacob loves it.

A Day Out With Thomas At Stephenson Railway Museum

My little boy Jacob is Thomas the tank engine crazy, he has Thomas bedding, toys, pyjamas and train sets. So when I heard that Stephenson railway museum in North Tyneside was holding a day out with Thomas event a few weeks ago I just knew that I had to take him. I bought a family ticket for two adults and two children for £35 and we kept the day out a surprise from Jacob.

Puppy Surprise Review

One of the things that I love the most about being a parent is introducing my children to things that I too loved as a child. There really is no better feeling than reliving your childhood with your own children, one way that I do this with my own children is through toys. So many of my favourite childhood toys are still around now twenty odd years later!

Puppy surprise review

So when my 4-year-old daughter Sophia was recently asked if she would like to review a Puppy Surprise dog I jumped at the chance, as I loved Puppy Surprise when I was a child. These day's Puppy Surprise is a lot cooler than she was when I was a child, she is now brighter, more colourful and very cute!

What Career Path Would Suit Your Cat? #WhiskasCareerDay

If your cat had a career what would it be? This was a question I was recently asked by Whiskas, after thinking of what our family cat Marmalade's personality is like I decided that his perfect job would be a security guard. Marmalade is seven years old now, so I guess you could class him as middle aged in cat years. He is my eldest daughter Chloe's cat and we have had him since he was a tiny little kitten, so we have seen his personality grow and know exactly what he is like as he is an indoor cat who likes to make his presence known.
