A Little Update - We Have Moved House

So things have been a little quite on here and on my social media for the last couple of weeks, we finally moved just over a week ago. When people say that moving is the most stressful time of your life they are so right, it was the most tiring and testing weekend I have had in a long time. I honestly never want to move again. We moved on my birthday of all days, so I did not celebrate my birthday at all or get any presents this year but I suppose a new house is a pretty good birthday present.

The week before we moved was crazy, packing the old house up was nigh on impossible with two toddlers. The other half was working long shifts at work and only had a few days off to actually move house and was back at work the day after we moved, so I felt like I had to do so much of it on my own and was still actually packing boxes as we moved. Sophia was ill, she had a sickness bug and was sick every day and night in the week leading up to the move, so we were all exhausted with lack of sleep.

On moving day all three children went to my mother in laws for the day so we could get on with moving. My dad offered to help us move with his work van, saving us a lot of money in moving costs. However, it took forever with just the three of us moving stuff and we were all exhausted and aching by the end of the day. Luckily the children have all settled in so well in the new home and it is like they have always lived here, they have never asked to go back to the old house once. Marmalade our cat was a bit terrified at first and he spends most of the time hiding in the utility room but he is slowly starting to venture out and explore.

Even though we have only been here for just over a week now, we all feel so settled and it is starting to feel like home. I really thought I would miss the old house but so far I haven't, probably because I have just been so busy. We haven't moved far, we literally have just moved a five-minute walk away and still live in the same little village. As I sit and type this now I am surrounded by boxes and black bags full of clothes and cuddly toys. I just have not had the time to unpack as we have had a house full of unwell children. Sophia had a sickness bug for a week right up until the night before we moved. Then as soon as she got better Jacob came down with some kind of bug and had a very high temperature and was full of cold and clingy, he woke every single hour during the night for a week. Then on Friday Sophia became unwell with a viral infection she had a temperature of 41.6, she was being sick and sleepy and not passing urine and ended up being sent to the hospital for dehydration.

The other half has been working 6 days a week too so it has just been crazy, I have not had a full nights sleep in almost three weeks and we have not had a single day without one of the children being ill for almost a month now. I just want to unpack and find a home for all of our possessions then I think I will feel a lot more settled.

I simply have not had the energy to blog, I am so behind on work but I am sure I will catch up as soon as the children are fully better and I am getting some sleep and they are back at nursery and pre-school again. I also want to take some photos so I can show lots of before and after photos of the new house, the house is lovely it is just very dated with thick white wallpaper on all the walls and dark wood panelling on the stairs. It is rather charming actually, it reminds me of visiting my Nana's house when I was a child.

So that is what has been happening lately, we have finally moved after eight months of waiting and we all love the new house. I really think that this will be a house that we will transform into a perfect family home and spend many years in. I can't wait to start unpacking properly and to get back into blogging too once my little ones stop being unwell, I feel like I am going a little bit stir crazy being couped up indoors with poorly children surrounded by piles of boxes and no adult company. If anyone has any tips for dealing with sick kids whilst staying sane, send them my way!

  4. I feel your pain. We moved six weeks ago. But our move was a bit more intense because we moved from the West Coast of Ireland to the East. 2 1/2 hours away from our old house. It meant the kids had to make new friends which was the only thing of holding back but they have adjusted well. There is still a few moans and all but I think that has got to do with the new routine more than anything else because they have to be up earlier and they also get their dinner in creche now. So all I hear when I collect them "I want dinner".

  7. Glad the move went well and hope you managed s glass of wine at the end of the day, well it was your birthday too so I think you deserved it. I cannot imagine packing up a house with small children. We have been in our house for nearly 16 years, and I don't think we will move until the children move out. Happy new home xx
