Pikku Morpeth

Regular readers will probably have noticed that we have reviewed Pikku the children's hair salon and clothes shop a few times now. Sophia reviewed the Gosforth store a few month after it first opened, Jacob also visited for his very first haircut and we visited again to try out the new downstairs salon too. We are huge fans of Pikku and I do pay to take my children to get their haircut when we are not reviewing as they love it so much, it is the only place that I will take them.

Recently Pikku have expanded opening up a new store in Morpeth, Northumberland and we were recently invited along to see what we thought. The store is located on Newgate street right in the town centre. You really can not miss the store as it is located in the signature Pikku colourful lime green and white style, with a gorgeous shop window showcasing the luxurious children's clothing they stock.

As soon as I entered the store I knew I was in Pikku as the style is very much like the original Gosforth store, nice bright colours and minimalistic, yet very welcoming. Unlike the original store the Morpeth store is located all on one level and has more of an emphasis on hair than the clothing and toy ranges, they do still stock a range of toys and clothing but it is not as extensive as the Gosforth store.

Entering the salon you have clothing on the right and the salon on the left and the pamper section at the back of the store along with a waiting area consisting of a sofa and toys for little ones to play with. We were pleased to see Trish from the Gosforth store working at the salon as we know her from previous visits, she is so friendly and amazing at keeping my little ones distracted whilst she cuts their hair. I also got to meet owner Minna and it was lovely to speak to her and find out more about the brand and see how well it is expanding.

On to the haircuts, I was pleased to see that the salon had the signature car chairs for little ones to get their hair cut in. There was a pink and blue one giving children the option of which car they would like, Sophia chose the blue one and was over the moon when Trish put Paw Patrol on the ipad for her to watch. Trish got to work cutting Sophia's hair, which is wild and curly by giving it a trim and tidying it up a bit, she also plaited her hair which Sophia loved.

Jacob also had his haircut and he is a little fidget when it comes to getting his hair cut, he really does not like it and will not stay still at all. Trish done an amazing job at keeping him distracted long enough to get his hair cut and he looked so smart afterwards.

Of course no trip to Pikku is complete without a little gift and the children were each given a balloon and some 'magic bubble' (the ones that don't pop). I am sure this is Sophia's favourite part of the salon visit as she is bubble and balloon crazy.

We were really impressed with the new store, it is really welcoming and I love the layout of having everything on one level, much easier for parents who have pushchairs. It is also great for browsing the clothes whilst your little ones get their hair cut. The staff were, as always extremely welcoming and friendly and amazing with the children and do a fantastic job at cutting little ones hair. Most importantly of all my children loved their visit to Pikku, as did the children that were visiting before us.

If you live near Morpeth then I highly recommend a visit to Pikku for your child's next haircut as it is such a fun experience that I am sure your children will love as much as mine do. You can book a hair cut either online on the Pikku website or by calling the store on 0191 4471300. A cut and style for a 1-5 year old costs £12.50 and if you have more than one child getting their haircut at the same time - like I did, the second child will receive a 25% discount (not available with any other offer). They also offer fluffy baby trims, older children's hair cuts, hair styling and plaiting for special occasions and birthday pamper parties.

Disclosure We were provided with complimentary haircuts for the purpose of this review, however all views are my own.

  1. I don't think these sorts of hairdressers exist down here in Cornwall, my boys would have loved this when they were small!

  7. My boy screamed the hairdressers down during his first haircut. I almost asked them to stop halfway through as everyone was looking at us but he would have looked rather silly with a half cut hairstyle! The little cars would make all the difference I think, great idea!
