Ox Pasture Hall A Luxury Country House Hotel In North Yorkshire - Review

We have just returned from the most lovely night away at the beautiful four star Ox Pasture Hall Hotel near Scarborough and I am already longing to return. You will probably have seen some photos already if you follow me on social media but I just have to tell you how amazing it was.

On Sunday myself and my other half Lee set off for are very first child free night together since Sophia was born almost three years ago! What better way to have a very long overdue night away together than at a Luxury hotel in Scarborough Yorkshire  which is only around 2 hours away from Newcastle, making it the perfect destination for a mini break.

Entrance to Ox Pasture Hall Hotel Scarborough

As soon as we arrived in Scarborough we headed down the tramway to the beach for fish & chips from Harry Ramsdon's, it has to be done when you are at the coast right ? Followed by a lovely walk along the bustling seafront, I could not believe how busy the seaside town was and it was such a wonderful laid back atmosphere. We enjoyed looking in all the gift shops, which reminded me of childhood days out with my grandparents and brought back fond memories of visiting Scarborough myself as a child.

I felt like I was relieving my childhood being back in Scarborough visiting the arcades playing on the 2p machines, eating ice cream whilst strolling along the beach and watching all the children enjoying rides on the donkeys and the small fun fair on the beach. It really was such a lovely way to spend a few hours and we have vowed to bring are own children to visit in the summer.

I wish that we had of had more time to explore this delightful seaside town as I really fancied going on the pirate boat trip and exploring the shops in the town centre. We had somewhere really special to head to though and that was to check in to are hotel for the night.

Just under three miles from the bustling seaside town of Scarborough it feels like you are transported to a different world as you drive into the wonderful Yorkshire countryside and discover Ox Pasture Hall Country House Hotel. As soon as we drove up the long sweeping driveway I fell in love as I caught a glimpse of the stunning and very welcoming former country farmhouse that has been transformed into the beautiful 32 bedroomed hotel it is today. Ox Pasture Hall is situated in the most idyllic setting of 17 acres of lush green countryside in the North Yorkshire Moors national park, which will take your breath away.

As we entered the cosy reception area of the privately owned boutique hotel we were warmly greeted and instantly made to feel at home as we were booked in for dinner and shown to are room. The room was actually a suite which was located across the beautiful wisteria courtyard's and away from the main hotel building, the courtyards and grounds were so charming and extremely well maintained.

My suite for the night was the Ilkley (all rooms are named after places in Yorkshire) which was huge and more like a little cottage than a hotel room. Decorated in a lovely cream colour scheme with thick carpets and solid oak furniture throughout and lots of little decorative accessories it had a really homely country feel to it. With stunning views from the windows, the bedroom views were of fields and vast open green coutryside and the view from the lounge was of the lake at the back of the hotel and spectacule views of the yorkshire moors.

There was a lounge area which had a large brown squishy leather sofa, a flat screen TV, desk and tea and coffee making facilities. The lounge area lead off to a open plan bedroom which was a good size and had an oh so comfortable massive king sized bed along with a wardrobe, chest of drawes and a flat screen TV.

My most favourite room was the bathroom, I seriously had bathroom envy as it had a deep filled waterfall bath, walk in shower and his and hers matching sinks and plenty of soft fluffy white bath towels. The suite was immaculately clean and had everything that you would need for a stay including a safe, radio, iron and ironing board, fluffy bathrobes, complimentary toiletries and bottles of still and sparkling water. There was also information packs with information on local area in and helpful hotel details such as a room service menu and contact numbers.

The only thing the room did not have was wi-fi as it was so far away from the main hotel building, although free wifi was available in the main hotel building. To be honest it was nice to just switch off from social media for a day.

I honestly did not want to leave the room it was so cosy but the grounds looked so inviting I just had to go and explore them some more. The grounds were one of the things that made me fall in love with Ox Pasture Hall as there is beautiful courtyards with fountains and ornaments dotted around, ivy covered walls, flowers all over with winding pathways and little cosy seating areas everywhere you look. I could just imagine how amazing it would be to sit outdoors in the summer here.

I loved the lake at the back which our room overlooked with ducks happily swimming in and some marvellous looking stag statues and ornate benches around. Ox Pasture Hall is a dog friendly hotel and it was lovely to see so many dogs around the hotel on walks with there owners or sitting under the tables in the bar, which really added to the country charm.

After a walk around the grounds we headed back to the suite where we freshened up and headed to the cosy bar for a drink before are meal. The bar area is so inviting with big comfortable sofas scattered with plump cushions, stone clad walls, wooden beamed ceilings and a cosy fireplace, it was exactly how I imagine a countryside bar to be like. I was unsure what drink to order so the super lovely barman created a cocktail for me that was fruity and delicious, I only wish I had of asked what it was.

When dining at Ox Pasture Hall you can either dine in the more relaxed bistro which is located in the bar area and serves more tradition gastro pub style food, or you can chose to dine in the Courtyard restaurant which is the only restaurant in Scarborough to have been awarded 2 rosettes for culinary excellence. We decided to dine in the Courtyard restaurant placing are order whilst sitting enjoying a drink in the bar before being shown to a table in the courtyard restaurant.

Sitting near the window we had lovely views of the beautiful courtyards and were offered a complimentary bottle of wine with are meal, the staff done a wonderful job of selecting a wine that complimented are meals wonderfully. The table was lit with candles and had a selection of breads with butters for us to enjoy, the olive bread was a hit with my other half. We did not have to wait long for are starters to arrive, now I hold my hands up and admit I am really fussy when it comes to food and don't like trying new things so I played it safe and ordered the mushroom starter, but there was more interesting dishes such as pigs head on the menu.

My starter did not look very appetising as it was mushroom mouse with croutons, it was seriously tasty though. Lee ordered the Salmon, caviar and asparagus starter which came beautiful presented and he says was the nicest thing he has ever tasted, which is saying something as we eat out a lot!

For mains I opted for the Yorkshire beef with seaweed and onion, this was cooked perfectly and the meat melted in my mouth, the flavours worked so well together and it was truly delicious.

Lee chose the Gressingham Duck cooked medium rare with celeriac, Chinese mushrooms and beetroot. I had a little taste of his duck and it was so tender and you could tell so much care had gone into making the meals.

For dessert, Lee opted for the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and I opted for the peanut butter and banana dessert. The banana ice cream that came with mine was the nicest ice cream I have ever tasted, however, I was too full to finish it. Lee, on the other hand, polished his Sticky toffee pudding off in record speed as it is his favourite pudding ever.

With full tummies, we headed back to our suite for the evening where we enjoyed a very comfortable nights sleep. We woke up feeling refreshed and well rested and made our way back to the courtyard restaurant for breakfast where we were quickly showing to a table and offered tea or coffee and toast by the friendly attentive staff. There is a buffet selection of fruit juices, assorted cereals, fruit, yoghurts and pastries on offer but we both decided to order the full Yorkshire breakfast which was cooked to order. The breakfast came well presented with lovely thick slices of bacon and juicy pork sausages.

It was then time to pack are bags and check out of Ox Pasture Hall and make are way home, although I really did not want to leave. We had such a lovely time and there is honestly not a single thing I could fault, the setting is breathtaking, the hotel is comfortable, cosy, clean and charming, the staff are very friendly and so welcoming and helpful and the food is outstanding making the perfect combination for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

We will defiantly be returning to Ox Pasture Hall in the future as we enjoyed are stay so much and were made to feel so welcome. If we ever get around to planning are wedding Ox Pasture Hall is top of my list of venues as it has a wedding suite and is just so beautiful. I have well and truly fallen in love with the Yorkshire countryside and this charming hotel.

Thank you to Shaun and his friendly team for making are stay so enjoyable.

Disclosure I was invited to stay at Ox Pasture Hall with complimentary overnight stay, dinner and breakfast in exchange for this review. However, all views are my own.
